Legendary Mexican fighter Marco Antonio Barrera was asked to name his top 5 Mexican fighters of all time, 1 or 2 suprises, see if you agree with him....

    1. Salvador Sanchez
    2. Julio Cesar Chavez
    3. Ruben Olivares
    4. Vicente Saldivar
    5. Erik Morales

I would personally have Chavez at number 1 but thats not the suprise... the suprise is the inclusion of hated rival Erik Morales, not because I believe Morales doesnt deserve a place (because I do believe EM should be there) but because of the fact MAB put him there.

Barrera put Morales on the list for 1 or 2 of these reasons.....
    1. He rates Erik that highly & his dislike wont let his heart rule his head.
    2. He thinks if he put Erik on the list then the casual boxing fan will slide him (Marco himself) into a higher position as he is 2-1 up vs Erik while everybody will think Marco is a very modest guy for not placing himself on the list.

    Any comments welcome.

    Cheers.

Exactly. Morales beat guys that was PROVEN Barrera couldnt beat but can you think of ONE, just one Barrera victim that you wouldnt favour morales to beat ? I know I cant.

People have short memories, before EMs body started to pack it in he was 47-1 where as MAB had like 4 defeats.... thats the stats from their prime yrs so all of a sudden people rate Marco higher because Erik`s career is in a speedy decline, disgraceful.

Barrera had better longevity because he choose a cautious style where as Erik was a soldier right to the bitter end. Lets not forget that Erik is actually the better BOXER of the 2 as shown in fight 2 but no way is Erik gonna avoid getting into brawls just to prolong his career, he is a true mexican warrior, its not in his mentality.
Even Ray Robinson declined & lost to guys he wouldnt have lost to in his prime & his legend hasnt been tarnished so why does Barrera leapfrog morales in some peoples eyes when EM is only going thru what every boxer does eventually... the tank runs dry.

Judge fighters by their best years & morales definetly ranks higher than Barrera... and dont even get me started on their head to head fights... ****ed up judges need shot, especially chuck giampa.

    Ps. Nice list by Barrera.

    :good

I rate Saldivar clearly above Zarate, and I'd rate him #4 on my list, with Barrera at #8.

mab and erik belong in that list. remove saldivar put in mab and place jcc @1, that list would be perfect.

No, once again a fantastic fighter in Saldivar is getting underrated in the general Forum.
