Marco Antonio Barrera and Golden Boy Promotions have ended their relationship after five years.

In an amicable split, the Hall of Famer has been released from his promotional agreement and given up his position as partner in Oscar de la Hoya's company.

"Marco is ready to move in new direction with respect to his boxing career," said de la Hoya. "We respect him and want to honour his decision to make a change.

"We wish him the best of luck and look forward to the prospects of working with him again in the future."

The Mexican legend has not fought since losing a rematch with Manny Pacquiao on points in October last year, his second successive defeat after dropping his WBC super featherweight title to Juan Manuel Marquez.
"While I have a great respect for Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, I have decided that I wanted to take a new path with respect to my boxing career," he said.

"I am pleased that we will move forward as friends."
