Barrera vs Fenech @ 122

Tough to call but I think I'd lean towards Fenech at 122. Barrera had a couple of poor performances and a loss of momentum as a Super-Bantamweight, and matured in to a much smarter, more measured fighter at 126 and 130. Although Barrera was a wonderful fighter, I can never quite shake the feeling that he could get discouraged and lose a bit of heart in fast-paced brawls where he couldn't adapt to the speed and output facing him (unless his opponent was El Terrible, of course) and to that end I think Fenech might be wrong for him. Fenech could handle boxers and wasn't an easy guy to time on the way in or counter effectively. His work rate and ability to maintain intensity over the full twelve (fifteen in his early career) was second to none when he was at his best, and he put his combinations together beautifully to head and body when he hit the groove, which admittedly could take a couple of rounds sometimes.

Think Barrera might have a better chance at Feather or Super-Feather (although Fenech was exceptional at 126, too), but at Super-Bantam I'm going with Fenech.

 

@ Super Bantamweight I think it would be somewhat competitive in the first 3 rounds but Barrera would eventually be overwhelmed with Fenech's constant pressure and aggression. Even if Barrera tries to be dirty with him Fenech would fight even dirtier.
I'll take Fenech by convincing decision. Just too relentless for Barrera.

 

Fenech by UD, Barrera would be taking quite a pounding by the end of the fight.

 

The Fenech that beat Samart does as the other posters suggested.

 

Fenech. Nobody beats Fenech at 122 imo, possible exception Gomez.

 

This one is just about unanimous at least for the ones that seem to know Boxing and or Fenech, he wins this one for sure, it would be an excellent bout but no way Jeff Loses it.

 

Yep, Jeff by decision, tough hard fight for Marco.

 

Barrera. I think it's an insult to even compare Fenech to Marco Antonio Barrera. I never thought much of Fenech. He had a short career, was one dimensional, and had no power. When he did step up he got bounced around the ring like a rubber ball.

 

Wrong

 

It took Fenech up to his fourth weight class to get beaten and that was against a legend who he also got robbed against in their first fight. His championship career last about six years, something like a dozen title fights. Not bad considering he picked up boxing late, developed terrible hand problems etc; he beat some good fighters in excellent, dominant fashion.

He might not be as great as Barrera, but I feel your selling him short. He was a special fighter.

 

Who at 122 lbs that Fenech faced is on the level of Kennedy McKinney, Junior Jones, and Erik Morales???
Fenech does'nt punch as hard as either of the three I mentioned.
Though Fenech is terrific in his aggressive mauling type style, Barrera is also good at that game plus he's more versatile boxingwise than Fenech which leads me to believe it would be the difference in a matchup at 122 lbs.
Imo Barrera wins a close competive decision.
