I know that im probably gonna go against popular opinion, and im going with Barrera by TKO 13. I think Barrera was tuff enough to whether Gomez punching power, dont forget Barrera what be throwin a lot of heat Gomez way. Barrera was tougher too. Dont gent me wrong im not totally confident in this prediction but Gomez hit harder,Barrera bette chin, speed kind of similar maybe sligt edge to Gomez, Boxing ability even. Just think Gomez and Pintor but Barrera was more well rounded and a better than Pintor i think Barrera could handle Gomez"s heat but down the stretch i think Barrera would stop Gomez(Fantasy fights are scheduled 15 right?)
Barrera was too hittable and unrefined to ever hope to beat Wilfredo Gomez, who peaked as a Super Bantamweight. Gomez was a great combination puncher, and had fast hands, in addition to lights out power. Barrera could go blow for blow with him, at least until he feels Gomez's power and then it would be over relatively quickly. The Boxer-puncher Barrera later on during his time at 122lbs, and when he campaigned as a Featherweight would be a tougher nut to crack for Gomez.
Gomez at this weight, stoppage as well. Barrera might be out of sorts after a while, this is a brutal fight (not unto Barrera but just in general, and it would actually get brutal on MAB later on) against a great operator. Gomez has the skills, he's fluid, and hits like a ton of bricks.
Barrera is one of my favourites but I gotta to go with Gomez it would be a very tough and competive fight for Gomez though. Wifredo Gomez By 9th Rd Stoppage
Barrera would probably not win a fight with Gomez but here is the thing, Barrera was extremely good at counter punching inbetween your punches when in exchanges and Gomez used to get wide and square when he got aggressive, that is where Barrera could take advantage at times, if Barrera fights smart i see him winning, if he gets involved too much he loses. To beat Gomez he would have to box & fight, that is what he did best. Gomez could box to but not effectively as Barrera imo. Pick em fight but i gotta go with Barrera, although i know he could easily get stopped. Gomez did not hit as hard as Hamed imo, i know that was up at FW but still...........
Barrera at his 122 lb best (vs Morales or Salud) would go the distance but Gomez wins a solid but competitive decision (maybe a TKO in a 15 rder, not sure) Morales v Gomez is a closer fight stylewise I feel.
How do you figure that? Morales has no head movement what so ever, he is there to be hit, he has been stopped by Pac, he has been hurt slightly by the likes Jesus Chavez, Zarragoza, he would walk into Gomez's wheel house.
Barrera at 122 was too careless and against Gomez it would spell disaster,he was also a bit easy to hit with straight rights(Jones and Mckinney fights are good examples of that) and that for me was Gomez best punch. MAB is one of my favs but he would get koed by Wilfredo at 122 but i would give him a great shot at 126 where Gomez wasnt the same fighter and MAB wasn't as careless as he was at 122.
