Let's face it, as long as they are in the game, the Barrera-Morales rivalry will always be on the fans mind, and when fighting in the same weight neighbourhood, you can't rule out their next meeting. From super bantamweight to super featherweight, they met in each division and produced one fight of the year after another. And today, both are looking for lightweight glory and to be the first Mexican to win world titles in 4 weight division, and that is a rivalry of it's own. In a suprising turn of events, after their short retirement these two switched promoters, Barrera left Golden Boy to join Top Rank and Morales ditched long-time stable Top Rank to sign with Golden Boy, and both are looking for in-house and all-Mexican 135lbs titlefights. Morales wants Juan Manual Marquez for a fight long overdue, while Barrera is looking to get in the ring vs. Humberto Soto. While both would be considered the heavy underdogs, if one can pick up a LW belt it's almost inevitable that the boxing world would push for a historical 4th fight in the 4th division. And while the 4th was unlucky for Vazquez-Marquez, these too might give us another great war, they are just made for each other.
I agree, they should fight again at a higher weight, that would give them a shared legend that likely would never be replicated in boxing history. Morales all the way... Viva Terrible !
i see them having issues making 135 but i'd love to see marquez-morales... even if its a completely faded morales, marquez ain't a spring chicken himself...
Both should have retired after their losses to Manny Pacquiao Barrera v Morales IV is just going to cause injury to both Both past their primes, both will be inducted into the boxing hall of fame, both legends in the sport There is no need for a 4th fight I hope you're wrong
Based on their very last fights, I say Morales is the more shot commodity. Im more a Barrera fan than a Morales fan, but it would be terribly unfair to him to fall to 3-1 against his defining rival. It wouldn't look right 100 years from now and would just be sad, imo. Barrera hasn't been through quite the beatings Erik has, and actually looked somewhat decent in his last fight. They both should call it quits on wins, and stay away from each other or Marquez.
No chance that's happening. Barrera wants to reside around 135 and Morales is flirting at welterweight. It's a **** fight now and an old timers day. Leave the trilogy in the hall of fame where it belongs.
Inevitable? Not sure about that. I think both will realize how special the trilogy was an leave it at that. I'd prefer to see Marquez v Morales over Barrera Morales IV.
I agree with magna, morales is more shot, considering his bloody battles against pac and barrera. barrera wins via UD at 135, even though im more of a fan in morales than barrera. morales doesnt need to have his 4th fight against barrera. his 3 fights against marco proved him to be one of the best all-time in bantam-feetherweight class.
Its a personal thing between both men tho, their legacy is sealed as 2 of the best ever but we would likely get another good fight + we really dont know if Morales can be any good now, the rest might have done the trick, he looked not bad vs Alfaro, he seemed to be sticking to his boxing which is good in my book - tho there were more than enough moments were he stood his ground El Terrible style once Alfaro started throwing bombs & coming forward to try take him out. Hopefully he beats my fellow Glaswegian Limond at the wkend, if he loses then its all over I admit because a prime Morales would **** Limond up proper.
A hope it doesnt happen there trilogy is special one more fight with them both over the hill would totally **** it all up
