100% of my gain is thanks to Steve "USS" Cunningham - or rather, thanks to Enad Licina being too inept a contender to capitalize on how much Cunningham's skills seem to be sliding. I actually had small bets - "cheeky punts" as our British chums would say - on almost all those Friday fights and lost them all ($75 on Forbes at 8/1; $75 on the under in Ramos-Valdez; $75 on Shamone Alvarez at 7/4). Thankfully, most of my meager fortune was riding on Mr. Cunningham and the ineptitude of Mr. Licina. Did anyone ever spot any odds on Barrera-Arias? As of last night there weren't any, which is why you never saw a VBookie event.
Nice win. Always good to see MAB beating people up. 4 wins in a row now at 140. I don't know what he's aiming for by continuing to fight, but if he gets a couple more stiffs under his belt he might find himself in the WBC top 10.
Hey, as of Thursday night/Friday morning none of those odds were up on the major accumulators. The natives were getting restless over the Chambers fight (which - in a very bizarre twist, never wound getting televised despite being so in-demand :! which was the only reason for me sniffing out action on such short notice, and lo - bonanza. Usually you can rely on odds being up 24 hours in advance if they're going to go up at all. btw I'm still kicking myself over the whole Esteban/Adailton thing...and thought about waking up my gf to say "OMG, so BE just quoted me pre-edit to call me out for getting my De Jesuses mixed up" but realized at the last second that she will have exactly zero appreciation for the matter on any level.
Holy crap. I hadn't investigated Arias' background too much. Not only is he 43, but he's had two layoffs of about a decade! He's campaigned in the late 80's/early 90's...then very briefly in the late 90's...and has been keeping the schedule of a prospect less than half his age since returning just last May. That's just the sort of funky record that dudes on the Classic Forum are going to be stumbling upon like 80 years from now and going "WTF is this?" - and they probably wouldn't ever find him if he hadn't fought Barrera. :think
All the times...all the times that I have started to tell a variety of people in my life something boxing related only to watch their eyes glaze over and realize there's really no reason I should have even started to begin with.
Barrera is still a dangerous opponent, I don't agree with others that he should retire, his only recent defeats are against Pacquiao,JMM (a controversial and close fight) and Khan(suffered a deep cut, I believe MAB could have TKO Khan in this fight)) against other opponents he is dangerous and impressive with his wins.
Morales should retire, not Barrera. Barrera has no legs anymore, but he is still sharp. He's a B-fighter...which, yes, is a great plunge from where he was but he's still a capable boxer. Morales on the other hand shouldn't be sanctioned let alone tossed in with Maidana. Granted, I wouldn't put Barrera in with Maidana either but it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad. If they pulled a Vazquez-Marquez and had a 4th Barrera-Morales fight right now, Erik would be KTFO.
Congrats to MAB, but damn was up with Arias jab... That was a very weak jab one of the weakest must I say...
