Do you think they'd be able to communicate with people who speak genuine Spanish? I can tell that that version of Spanish has a different style of grammar and has some words that I don't recognize.

 

Montiel is ****ing amazing! First im thinking thats it, his out and he just gets up. Then he stumbels and i again think it´s over but he just jumps up... wtf?

 

Yes. I have friends from that region. When they spoke to native Spanish speakers, it was not a big adjustment. The dialect is basically Spanish with some Filipino words.

 

I agree with that reporter in the video. The Spaniards didn't do a good job of teaching their language.

I've also noticed that in the Philippines, they pronounce Spanish names that have "ll" differently from native Spanish speakers. Like the name "Castillo." In the Philippines, it's pronounced "Casteel-yo" but the real pronunciation is "Castee-yo."

 

They are both correct. A friend from Spain pointed this out but did say the way Flipinos pronounce "ll" = ellye is all but died out in Spain. In Puerto Rico, castillo is pronounced casti-jo, with the "j" sound.

 

Haha, that's probably why Pinoys chose the wrong sport as well. The Philippines should've been a soccer/football country, though Spain is also a basketball powerhouse.
