Looks like you've scooped the Herald Sun's lead sports story a day early there! You've got the look of an 'industry insider' with information like that. Barry Hall v Sonny Bill Williams fight has a lucrative ring to it by Jon Anderson - Melbourne Herald Sun - July 20th 2011 A MASSIVE battle of the football codes looms for Barry Hall and Sonny Bill Williams after Hall's retirement from the AFL at season's end. Hall yesterday refused to rule out a return to boxing, a sport in which he won a Victorian amateur title as a junior before pursuing football. And an obvious fight would be against sometime heavyweight boxer Williams, who is preparing to represent the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in September-October. Hall, 34, who stands 194cm and weighs 104kg, has all the necessary tools to make a success of a boxing career, according to Danny Green's trainer Angelo Hyder. "Danny Green and I asked Barry after he left the Sydney Swans to take up boxing," Hyder said yesterday. This content is protected "Obviously he chose the Western Bulldogs, but he would be insane not to give it a go now. He would be a lot bigger than Anthony Mundine and let's not forget he had a far more extensive junior boxing career. "I have seen him spar Danny Green, and Danny won't let mugs in the ring with him. Personally, I don't think Sonny Bill would last long, but it's an obvious fight. "Imagine the pay-for-view given the AFL fans and those who have followed Williams in both rugby league and union. It could be bigger than Danny Green and Anthony Mundine. "Barry Hall could make more in his professional boxing debut than he would have made in two years with the Bulldogs. "He could set his life up financially and wouldn't need to fight for more than two or three years. If he does start to fight, then I would expect he will come to me because we have that understanding. My door is open. "And one thing you can be sure of, Barry Hall won't be fighting the sort of palookas Sonny Bill has been in with in his four fights to date." Johnny Lewis, regarded as Australia's most successful trainer, has always believed Hall could win the national heavyweight title. "He boxed as a junior and it's like riding a bike, you don't forget," Lewis said. "He would go a long way very quickly in Australia's heavyweight ranks, but the want has to be greater than the need." Green said a successful switch would be up to Hall. "He is a very exciting boxing prospect, no doubt. Barry has got a truckload of potential," he said. Former world IBF junior lightweight champion Barry Michael said boxing fans in Sydney for tonight's Green-Antonio Tarver fight was abuzz with rumours about Hall's move to boxing. "From what I hear he has very fast hands and can take a good shot, but may not be a huge puncher," Michael said. "That might surprise some, but the boxing ring is a lot different than having a sneak go at footballers." *Will be watching your posts with added interest after a scoop like that! Typical 'industry insider'. Just patted it back with a perfectly straight bat . We'll be watching your future posts with great interest :hi:.
I'm looking forward to Hall entering the ring, he has always been a boxer in waiting, I have followed his footy career since the Saints and he has had the shadow of professional boxing following ever since. I don't see him shying away from a decent first up opponent. Hall v Whitehead would be a good start.
