Sky recently retained lots of sports on long term deals. BT are gonna be locked out from most of Sky's headline sports for a good while yet.

 

Bt have committed a hell of a lot of money on CL footie, reckon itv could come back into the fray as a serious player (at least in terms of domestic action) once they lose the live CL games

 

Bt have taken live champions league football from sky and itv, motogp from bbc and done a long term deal for the nba, not to mention they'll go for more PL football next time those rights come up for tender in 2 years or so

while Sky retained Super league until 2021, British & Irish Lions Tour 2017, New Zealand Cricket for the next seven years, which importantly involves two England winter tours in 2018 and 2020.

dont forget about IPL cricket also which Sky now have for 3 years from 2015.

Them 3 sports alone are subscription drivers. Moto GP and NBA are not!

Like I said BT sport are locked out of Rugby League, English cricket and Rugy Union tours for a good while.

Then there is the whole issue of BT Sport pricing. We still have no idea if BT sport will remain free for BT broadband customers.

Check out the Boxnation PPV prices - hardly anyone is going to pay the current charge of £30 for a weekend of boxing regardless of who is fighting.

I know in London, I struggled to find a pub showing Haye V Chisora so a few of us turned up at Upton Park about 2 hours before the fight and bought tickets for 50% of face value from touts.

The PPV prices are insulting so nobody will buy them (see the disgraceful 'world title' Stuart hall fight they wanted £30 for, £30 for buglioni or bigger Lolz for Browne bahoeli.) looks more like the last desperate throes of the channel, not something to push the channel forward

Bt have some union, and nz cricket ain't a subscription driver! And the lions tours are every 4 years, so not a subscription driver

Also bt have most american sports, not a massive subscription driver in this country but bang for buck will be decent for em. And they have said it won't be free for broadband subscribers for much longer

 

Went to the man city game on Wednesday on work thing, they were leafleting for the chisora fury fight. No lying nobody cared about taking a leaflet.

 

England cricket tours of NZ are subscription drivers! Thats the reason Sky got them rights as they want to keep england tours on Sky.

I am not saying that BT sport are not doing a good thing by the way. I just making a point that they wont be challenging sky for most sports for at least 3- 4 years as Sky got them locked down.

 

Even the touts never bothered buying tickets for Dull Boy v Fury.

The first fight was a stinker after a big build up and the public know that the 2nd fight will be no different.

Can see an excuse coming for this fight not happening as tickets not selling.

Yeah don't see bt overtaking sky sports in the immediate future, however if they get 3-5 of the 6 pl packages in the next round of bidding then it will be twitchy arse territory for sky sports execs

And there's also UFC for bt!

(2) Even if they did, a multi-sports channel could just drop the sport later if they don't like the ratings they are getting. (Just like Sky largely did with international boxing.)

A dedicated boxing channel has the advantage that it *HAS* to show boxing and keep the commitment to it. BT Sport would quite likely just switch over to rugby or whatever the second they think they can get more subscribers that way.

As for fighters' profile on BoxNation... I think people exaggerate the difference. Hardly anyone is watching a lot of the Sky cards these days. It's nothing like back in the day on ITV. That's just how it is. DeGale gets a million or so viewers on channel 5 and people still complain that it hasn't done him much good. You don't get anything like that most of the time on Sky.

 

The fact you can't tell the difference between the Sky boxing fans and those on channel 5 is why you're an idiot and your FW-loving should be ignored.
