He hasnt done a column in the Daily Mirror for a while either.

  3. Is it because he is so involved with frampton?

Maybe he's putting all his effort in teaching Freddy Flintoff to deliver a single straight punch.

Yes seems to be concentrating on Frampton.

Like listening to him on sky very passionate about the game the only thing I found slightly annoying with him is not letting the others finish their POV before jumping in!

  6. I don't like the way he is criticised because apparently he doesn't deserve to be in the IBHOF

He is in there because he had a great career with some bruising battles in front of incredible numbers watching on tv or the venue add the political climate at the time and he was a figure that transcended the sport for a good few years

It's not his fault he was inducted but he is far more worthy than sly stallone

Definately one of my favourite pundits though

he was even better when he first started out....on a tv channel called 'screensport' which had some terrific fights on..this is back in early 90's...that channel pushed a lot of the early fights of eubank and herbie hide and the like......ironically jim macdonell and mcguigan were side by side for a lot of the commentary and they didnt get on so well.

anyway....back then mcguigan was a superb commentator...he was very honest in his opinion....i get the feeling from him in recent times that he holds back a bit on complete honesty with one eye on knowing what to say or not say to keep the paymasters happy.

Interesting that you say that as it seems all you need to be a commentator these days is brown nose the channels golden goose. I remember meeting Elton Welsby (remember him?!) a few years back who said that there was no interest in having knowledgeable commentators any more as its all about the image and toeing the party line. Ok this was in respect of football but the same thing applies in boxing.
