McGuigan is so professional, he really does his homework before he comes in to do a job on fight night. He is knowledgable, very passionate and is good to listen to. If anything, he could probably lighten up slightly and not have to have the last word, that's all.
He's very like McAuley both of them know a lot about the fighters they are watching no matter where they are from. You could pull a fighter from anywhere in the world with no footage available but come fight night both will tell you the punch the fighter usually is looking to set up, what sort of fighter they are and what weakness they have. Something I really respect McAuley for doing he obviously does a lot of work in the build up to the RTE cards. Muguigan does the same but not to the extent Dave boy goes to.
Aye, spot on about McAuley, who I really like in the commentator role - he really does have something to say when he is on air. If I compare the likes of Nelson on fight night, he just comes across as a guy that is coming in to wheel out the usual cliches, money for old rope.
:good Not sure if anyone picked up on it in the Ringside thread but during those demos Adam said ''Nice to see you all back in the ring again, especially you Jonny'' WTF?!
Yeah Nelson among others just seem to show up and talk **** barely talking about a fighters style or what he should be doing.
Exactly. I don't know why people constantly have a go at Watt (who actually gives an opinion and some analytical thought) but someone like Nelson always gets a free pass. He's hopeless and offers NOTHING when he's in the studio.
Nelson has went under the radar I think from the shake up him, Glenn and Piper were basically the same show up and sprout the usual ****. The lack of detail of each fight on FFN was a joke when you think back it might as well have been scripted it was that same concept every week. Nelson was the best of a bad bunch but in with the pundits now he is really being shown up in my opinion. Was a bit gutted at the last prize fighter they had Witter in the ring and two ingle fighters in the studio why not ask them about the style of fighter in the ring. I'm sure they could of mustered up a decent chat there.
Barry's a salesman and he can never turn it off. He is always trying to impress and always has to have something to say even when he has nothing to say. That's the Monaghan man in him. Don't get me wrong he is good but if he relaxed with it he could be a world beating sports analyst. He just needs to filter a bit more. I don't know if anyone is old enough to remember "Thank you very much Mr Eastwood" but it was Barry's mantra and he can be like that when he gets an idea in his head or he is trying to sell something. If he could be a bit more cerebral then maybe just maybe......................
Currently based on recent fights and ringside episodes, I'd rate Barry right up there from the sky crew. Not always right but much better than nelson and smith. 1. Watt 2. Mcguigan 3. Woodhall 4. Piper 5. Darke 6. Glenn 7. Nelson 8. Smith I'd love sky to go with a wildcard character like HBO have rjj, sky could possibly have prince naz, I'm sure you'd get more viewers watching and while he might not be the best analyser you'd still be entertained. Sky should just make sure he keeps it toned down, maybe a eubank. Not sure if these guys would be into punditry but they sure hell love the cameras and seem comfortable in front of them.
