Who takes this one between these two tough little guys at lightweight? Anyone give Michael a shot?

Barry Michael, even though he won his title at super feather was really a natural lightweight so Haugen even though he fought at light welter might not have THAT much physicality on him, Michael would've stayed at lightweight, but after beating Al Carter in a little classic and not getting a shot at Boom Boom Mancini like he was promised, decided to move down to super feather when Lester Ellis won the IBF strap and they had what probabily is Australia's biggest ever fight. The first world title fight between two Aussies aswell. He was done by the time of the Rocky Lockridge fight where he got dominated.

Greg Haugen was a good little fighter too. And mixed in some great company with the likes of Chavez, Whitaker, Camacho etc. Not on their level but was a very solid fighter. He probabily had more boxing skills than Barry Michael. But Michael was versatile, imo and would probabily press the fight aswell as box in spots. Micheal also had a great chin.

I would pick Haugen to win a decision, maybe a very clear one. The one of the Vinny Paz fights and even the one who stopped a faded Ray Mancini. But certainly the one who won the IBF strap the first time.

Barry may have had a fast and good start for a couple rds, but Greg would be coming on strong by rd 3 or 4, either ko's barry, or just beats the **** out of him.

I think Haugen would win. But i don't think he would stop him. You had to hit a prime Barry Michael with a baseball bat to make him blink. Also Haugen wasn't the hardest puncher around.

Only saw one Michael fight against LEster Ellis.......so it´s difficult to comment on a fantasy matchup......but I think is fair to say that this would be awesome to watch.......

Vic. I've got pretty much all of Michael's fights. I'll try and upload some later in the week.

You have to see his fight with Frankie Ropis.

Al Carter was one of those underrated really tough, high risk, low reward guys, who no one wanted to fight if they didn't have to. Good win for Michael.

It's a shame drugs destroyed Al Carter afterwards.

I seem to remember Barry had a beauty of a shiner on tv the next day. It was the good friday appeal or something and one of the donations he read out was from...Frank Ropis

    Here's a bit of Michael - Ellis - Fenech

That whole underworld scene getting involved with the Ellis/Michael fight was insane.

Yep. Alphonse Gangitano was in the Ellis camp and apparently he'd bet big on Lester and lost. The Michael nightclub incident apparently happened after Barry gave Al a bit of colourful language when Al suggested a rematch

What's Barry up to these days? I know he does a bit of commentary.

Btw. Interesting story. My dad had a ticket for Barry Michael against Rocky Lockridge. On the day of the fight there were rumours that the arena was ganna be bombed. In fact those rumours spread and were given credence as the fight came closer and there was a real scare. So my dad decided to give it a miss and stay at home.
