Bas Rutten Believes Ubereem Is The No. 1 Ranked Heavyweight

Hard to tell who is ranked #1 atm but I agree. Brock needs to be tested a bit more and Fedor will likely bounce back from the loss.

 

Overeem is definitely a far better fighter than Brock, more well rounded than Werdum and probably a step below Josh Barnett and two steps below Fedor.

 

I have no idea how anybody could seriously claim that Barnett is a top heavyweight in 2010.

I live Overeem, looked very good against Rogers and has looked awesome in his past few K-1 appearances. The question is how he would do against a powerhouse wrestler like Velasquez and Lesnar? Until that's answered its difficult to really put him ahead of those two, both of whom have faced a tougher standard of MMA competition over the past two years.

 

Overeem has twice as many losses as Brock has fights. Since when did Lesnar or Cain become the benchmark for success at heavyweight? Honestly this kind of opinion is absurd. Barnett and Overeem are PROVEN veterans of this sport with the depth of experience and records to back their claims. Cain and Brock are neither. But somehow in your world they're the men to beat? atsch

Read what I wrote. I didn't say he had to beat them, just that I want to see how he would perform against somebody with genuine wrestling skills. Somebody who should be able to put him on his back.

And I stand by the claim that both Velasquez, Lesnar (and actually Dos Santos) have all faced a better standard of competition in MMA than Overeem over the past two years.

 

You can argue that Overeem looks the best for sure but unfortunately opinions have to be finalised in the ring. Overeem needs a big fight against Werdum or Fedor to make his mark.

Im big fan of genuine top class stikers..Overeem is best striker in MMA hands down.. Heavyweight division i mean..No one comes close..

 

Until Fedor bounces back, I consider Overeem top of the pile. Overeem has vast reserves of skills and experience that guys like Lesnar and Velasquez cannot even comprehend, he would dominate any of the top heavyweights in the UFC... although JDS has a puncher's chance against anyone.

 

If those two fought in the K1 striker and against striker Reem would pulverise JDS.

 

Quite. I don't see anybody being able to succeed against Overeem by leading with their striking. After all, this is a guy good enough to be an elite guy in K-1 while JDS couldn't finish Nelson despite punching him in the face for 15minutes. The question is what happens if he's up against somebody with excellent takedown/wrestling. Its not so much a weakness, as an area of his game we just haven't seen tested recently.

 

Bas must base his record on something other than fighting, because Overeem has not done **** at HW, and got beat up pretty bad on several occasions at LHW.

His biggest accomplishment is going 1-1 with Sergei.

 

Why not the guy who has beat Fedor, and beat Overeem? Werdum deserves it far more.

 

If/when they meet, I expect Overeem to crush Werdum, although I prefer Werdum personally. Overeem may not have accomplished a whole lot yet at heavy, but it's a matter of 'when' and not 'if' IMO. Other than Fedor, there is no-one in the heavyweight division who can come close to matching Overeem's experience and quality.
