Bas Rutten joins UFC Hall of Fame in July

Completely PR based. Rutten was wildly overrated as a fighter and quite frankly is an annoying blow hard who's favorite subject is himself. Everyone is so hypnotized by this guy but I see him for what he really is, a self promoting con man.

Bas is a good guy, but his career accomplishments are grossly over exaggerated!

Even in his prime he wasn't the best in his division.

 

He was average in a very average era........ would get destroyed today

 

To echo the sentiments of the other posters I'd have to say Bas was an overrated fighter who has made a career off of promoting himself as something he never was.
He always played second fiddle to Shamrock in Pancrase and his fight with Kevin Randleman for the UFC HW title was one of the worst robberies in combat sports history.

Frank Shamrock is a far more worthy inductee but Dana hates him so he won't get in.

That's great news! Hopefully they'll eventually induct Frank Shamrock.

 

You guys have to realize when Rutten was fighting, he was a pioneer and he spent of the majority of his career fighting in Pancrase which was very different from modern MMA. He was a product of his time, and I think it's good that he's getting inducted for what he's contributed to MMA in it's early days, and his brief success in the UFC. Personally I hope there's an MMA HOF someday, Rutten would be a better fit there instead Zuffa's 'WWE' styled HOF.

I think he was a great fighter though.. Very well schooled in the Dutch style of Muay Thai, excellent low kicks, great mid kicks. He had some sickening body shot KO'S in Pancrase... Never got to see how good his hands were because Pancrase didn't allow punches, but it was hilarious to literally see him ***** slap guys

 

I actually think his all around striking ability was better than a lot of modern MMA heavyweights. I like his commentary though, great stuff.

 

Frank Shamrock was a tremendous fighter and was years ahead of his time.

He is the prototype of what we see today in MMA.

Could do it all and had it all. Looks, skills, conditioning, heart, guts - Frank's the man.

And, in my opinion, in his prime he'd give any fighter in his weight class of today fits.

His fight with Tito is legendary, especially considering the form Tito was in at the time that Frank beat him down. Amazing and legendary finish!

 

No doubt. Frank in his prime was a beast and one of the first, if not the first to be good at all facets of MMA. He was well versed in everything. Like someone else said, only reason he's not in the HOF yet it because Dana hates him. Frank in his prime would certainly cause a lot of these guys fits. I think he'd be top 10 anywhere from WW-MW today.

 

UFC are running out of HOF fighters that's why he's going in.
