Based on pure skill and talent, where does Rigondeaux rank all-time among Cubans?

Yeah top 5, it would be hard to split Rigondeaux, Savon, Kindelan, Stevenson and Ariel Hernandez as far as technical boxing skill goes.

 

Kid chocolate and gavilan along with Rigo.
There was an amateur champ from the 70's, early 80's ; Adolfo Horta , very similar to rigondeaux .

 

Mantequilla, Keed, LMR and El Chacal are the best Cuban fighters I've ever seen. Some of the best, period. The first two mentioned are both amongst my Top 30 ATGs and Top 5 Welters. 147 wasn't even Napoles absolute prime and he still dominated to that extent (his top five rating).

 

Napoles was ****ing stunning. Gavilan and LMR were also each about as brilliant as it gets. Kid Chocolate a legend as well. Then you've got recent guys, most notably Rigondeaux & Casamayor, and the likes of Gamboa and Lara. The purely amateur legends like Stevenson, Kindelan, and Savon as well.

For such a small nation, Cuba's boxing history is absolutely stacked.

Behind Napoles, Gavilan, and Rodriguez. Rigondeaux's performance against Donaire impressed me more than any Casamayor performance in all honesty. And I'm far more impressed with Rigondeaux than I am Gamboa, and especially Erislandy Lara.

I haven't seen enough of Sugar Ramos and Kid Chocolate to give a fair assessment on them.

 

Skill by the boatloads (no pun intended). Cuba's greatest talents are hands down amazing and on par with anyone.

Unlike Rigo this guy was in exciting fights and was the definition of a fighter,Rigo is a chicken ****....

Rigo would make a fine ice skater

 

I always thought he was the best amatuer boxer I've seen, better than Stevenson or Savon.

Difficult to compare him at this stage with the great pro Cuban boxers, Gavilan, Napoles, Rodriquez etc. I believe he has the ability to be mentioned in their class as a pro, but does he have the time to build a record to match there's, probably not.

 

You are forgetting someone who was IMO far better than Savón and Stevenson @ HW:

And yes, I'd simply (as heretical as it may seem) remove Savón and Stevenson from that list to include Roberto Balado:
