Pinklon Thomas and the public were screaming for a match vs Holmes for ages, Thomas had a very long unbeaten run all the way to the other title, the one Holmes had vacated from memory. Holmes stated publically at least twice he would not face Thomas, blaming apartheid once and well later stooping to drug reasons. Thomas could well be the single most noteworthy omission. He and Holmes were the two best Heavies in the world for quite some time.

That's fair enough, I mentioned Thomas too. It would definitely have been a very good fight.

I wasn't aware of the supposed drug reasons. Could you go into more depth?

Mainly Larry being a ****. Thomas was a recovered heroin addict, and hadn't used it for many many years. Holmes being Holmes attacked him on it, childishly so. Little wonder Thomas was so worked up to pummel him

Seeing as you rate Holmes very high anyway (ie: in the Top 4), where would you rate him had he taken at least one of those fights/rematches and emerged the winner? If he lost how would that affect your outlook?

How convinced are you overall that Page, Thomas, Dokes etc would have unsurped him at that stage? Who was the very most deserving of a shot out of those three given the divisions climate at that time?

I see you hold Holmes and Lewis both in very similar high regard (Same with me, almost nothing between them) I'd like to see you reasons for rating Lewis ahead overall? It's of course entirely subjective and understandable, but I'm just curious. I think Holmes is slighty better head to head and his immense fighting heart just puts him ahead. I suppose you could say both achived redemption in the face of adversity.

Thanks, I hope the questions aren't too stupid, you have the patience to answer etc. :good

He'd be a clear number 3 IMO and almost challenge Louis for 2.

Page beat Tillis and then defeated Snipes in what was an eliminator for the mandatory number 1 challenger position. He deserved his shot right then. It's only logical Thomas should have been given a shot, he wasn't beat for years among many other reasons. Given some saw controversy in the Witherspoon fight and just how competitive it turned out Tim should have been given a rematch after Holmes fought Page next, or after Page and a tuneup. Weaver too. Dokes and Holmes would never meet as one King had Holmes and another Dokes - what good was a soon to retire Holmes and a beaten Dokes?

Holmes admittedly and openly ducking deserving fighters in the last 1/3 of his career shifts a take on all comers Lewis above him IMO, allied to the fact Lewis's best wins eclipse Holmes IMO.

Goodness no, i've kept response short as it's bedtime, but feel free to ask more in depth questions as well as an expansion on our topics already. I'll answer in full tomorrow night. Cheers mate

While this is certainly correct, LaStarza and Layne just don't have the ultimate stature to hang with Walcott or Moore as top-quality wins.

Boxing Records at the time of fighting Ali. One winnner :good

p.s. For Dempsey - If Liston was an old man v Ali. What does that make Louis and Walcott v Marciano?
