Bastie "The Beast" Samir is kind of an enigma. He was considered the Ghanaian amateur GOAT, and many countrymen, including Azumah Nelson, had projected him to have a hugely successful pro career upon his debut. He signed with American handlers and fought in the US for a few years, and I can with clarity remember considering him a big-time prospect watching him on undercards nearly a decade ago. He was 10-0 (10) at the peak of his buzz. Following his draw with Lester González, however, things have sputtered into a confusing staccato. Samir first took a 2-year layoff, resurfacing in 2013 when he fought at home in Ghana four times over a nine month span...only to disappear from the ring. This absence would last three years. He was extended the distance for just the second time in September of 2016, winning a UD in a 6-rounder in his U.S. return (the only time Samir has fought outside Africa since González over 8½ years ago, finding a home once more on a Golden Boy undercard) ...after which he sat on the sidelines for thirteen months. He knocked out 29-0 (22) cruiserweight Briamah Issah "Bukom Banku" Kamoko, hailed as Ghana's most popular boxer domestically and then vanished for yet another 16 months, until February of this year. The mere ten months between his last stint and this one actually feels shockingly brief, for him.

What was supposed to have just been a welterweight eight-rounder just ended in R1 after one boxer (in yellow trunks) speared his adversary into a corner and both went down. The other guy seemed to be awarded the victory by TKO1 when the yellow trunks guy could no longer continue.

 

Two kids making their pro debut against each other now, didn't catch the division.

Good fight, competitive for the most part but Lamptey firmly in control with his body shot combos and uppercuts inside.
