Lewis via KO in the 2nd half of the fight. It'd start off techincal, but Lennox could "throw down", if you will, better than Wlad. Lewis would eventually make it rough and that's where Wlad's downfall would be.
Wlad has the better, stiffer jab, but Lewis threw his with much more menace of combination/right hand follow through. You could call Wlad's right hand sneaky, but honestly, he could be poking left hands and you can wait on a right hand that might never come. With Lewis, it came, and often.
I'm telling you, the uppercut with the left hand on the back of the head would be the ticket here. Wlad would have no recourse.
Then again, if Wlad lands early it can be over for Lewis too. And Lewis wasn't the fastest starter and could be outjabbed (Bruno, Mercer.) I give Lewis the biggest chance, but Wlad has a very big chance to win.
Wlad with Vitali's temperment, this becomes a pick' em. He wouldn't land early, because he wouldn't throw down early against a fighter of Lewis' calibre. The better his opponent, the more he bleeds them. He only goes after guys like Ray Austin and Mormeck early anymore. Took him 5 rounds against Brock to even sit on a right.
I see I never actually commented on their jabs. I think Wlad had the better jab. His looks kind of pecking and a lot of times looks like he doesn't really commit to it, but its effectiveness can't be questioned. He's won fights purely with his jab, which hasn't consistently been done since Holmes. Lewis had a very good jab, but he often used it more as a set up for his other punches. It was plenty effective too, though. He used it superbly against Tua, Tyson, and Mavrovic.
I think it's important to acknowledge the difference in intent. Wlad's is better because of HOW and WHY he jabs. Lewis jabs for different reasons and with different intentions. He'll also jab for distance, which Wlad doesn't enjoy; He'd rather poke, stiff arm, hook, and hold.
thread starters question isnt who would win a fight it is who's jab is better. on that basis i think it has to go to wlad.
I kind of agree....however....hmmm could some of that "rough" and "physical" stuff be falling in on combinations, giving up distance and hence ending up in rougher fights easier?:think
I don't really rate either as being great overall jabbers. Magna has it nailed though.Wlad better and more important as a weapon in itself for him, Lewis the better utilised set up weapon and could occasionally be a damaging heavy shot as well.Far too often he used it like an old man reaching for a tin of beans on the shelf though.
I can't disagree with that. I do think Wlad's jab could be even better than what it is. When I see guys like Holmes, Hearns, and Quartey jab, they really whip it out there and throw it like it's an actual punch. Wlad hasn't done that very often or consistently since his fight with Mercer. Lewis is also guilty of sort of prodding with his jab at times, but his prod was more of a heavy prod than a stiff arm prod like Wlad's. That being said, Wlad's jab all around is better than Lewis's. He can do more things with it and it's all around more complete.
A lot of that has to do with factors other than the sheer quality of his jab though, luf. Like him being huge and safety first now, knowing how to fight tall better.
