I know and I have many of the same fond memories myself. I went to a rather large high school and I think there were maybe 4 or 5 other dudes who watched the same channels and followed the sport as intently as I did. no one else really gave fvck. Speaking of Terry Davis I remember when he was an undefeated prospect and somewhere I saw him get beat by Lionel Washington. Don't remember what network or if it was a recording. Washington was a tough customer too. Bruce seldon getting upset by McCall. Witherspoon knocking out the giant Ecklund with one Punch. A washed up Pinklon being out boxed by Mike Hunter. The list of craziness goes on and on.. I can remember sneaking a six pack of beer which some older friends bought me, into my house under my parents noses and watching the fights while drinking some cold ones. Not only was it a great era and evironment for boxing but a reminder of my youth and everything that went on at the time.

You were lucky to find 4 or 5 boxing nuts.

    I was a lone wolf.

My friends would see me reading boxing magazines and just shake their heads.

They'd only watch HBO fights and sometimes the free ones on network TV.

TNF = best boxing show EVER. Loved Al Alberts and "the champ! Sean OGrady".

I can still here Al going "ooohh!" when a big shot would land. And yes he could be a bit of a wiseass at times, man what a great show that was

One of the best fights they ever had was the "Fans pick the matchup" s**** between former champ. Livingstone Bramble and prospect Oba Carr.

I also liked the mid '80's Top Rank Boxing on ESPN when Al Berstein was the main announcer

The later version with loud mouthed Teddy Atlas wasn't as good.

Wow you guys are bringing back some great memories. I loved TNF. Never missed a show. The up and coming heavyweights Like Alex Garcia and hard hitting (but poorly conditioned) samoan knockout artist Samson Po'uha. Who can forget Andrew Golota giving us a glimpse of things to come in the future when Po'uha had Golota rocked and in serious trouble only to have the dirty Golota spit out his mouthpiece and bite Po'uha's neck. (He actually drew blood) Instead of getting (properly) disqualified, they let the fight go on and Samson ran out of gas a few rounds later.

Man, Bramble - Carr was a great fight! (especially on free tv) Sometimes an over the hill fighter still has one great performance left in him. I went to the fight between Oba Carr and Ike Quartey at MSG. After seeing how much trouble Oba had with Bramble, I thought Ike was going to steamroll him. But, Oba gave Ike all he could handle that night.

Yeah I went to a fairly large school, well it seems large to me we had close to 500 kids in my actual grade, maybe that's not big but we are the biggest fish in my surrounding Area.

My core friends, 6 of us, all boxing fans but only me and my best friend were super fans. As in record everything, buy all the mags and there were tons back then, KO, The Ring, Boxing Illustrated, Boxing Scene, Boxing 96' (or whatever year) on and on. The larger group gathered for PPV I remember having close to 50 people at the house sometimes for PPV, thanks mom and dad for paying for all that and having the space lol.. When I say we taped everything that's not an exaggeration if it was ESPN or an channel talking boxing REC was happening. Some of the major fights I've got tapes and tapes full of just pre fight, the sport was covered to the max back then. I really need to tranfer my best stuff over.

Washington I remember that same cat losing to Weaver via KO1 on Fight Night at the great western forum!

Seldon losing to McCall, awesome McCall we'd heard and read about but rarely seen him since this was kinda his first big tv win. We knew he was Tysons sparring partner

Spoon - Eklund classic!!!! Spoon fought on TNF all the time!!! Love the Art Tucker KO at the Blue Horizon that place was phenomenal

HUNTER VS PINKLON was on the undercard of Booker T Words shocking KO1 over hometown hero Anthony Hembrick

Guys like Jesse Ferguson starting as a contender beating guys like Buster Douglas and much later Ray Mercer and then even getting a title shot vs Bowe while being a journeyman in between before and After..

    Golota biting Pouha
James Toney coming in the ring after being called out by Tyrone Trice.
Louis Monoco who was knocked out in 1 by Butterbean knocking out Buster Douglas in 1 but getting screwed
    Butler upsetting Tubbs via ko1

    So many great memories dude

Cooper takes this one, and by stoppage, because he was the better, all around fighter with a more developed ****nal as well as a more sophisticated delivery system. He might get hurt a few times by Thunder, but would weather the storm, survive, and return the favor, hurting and stopping Johnny by the 8th round.

Garcia looked like a killer and then he lost to Mike Dixon on TNF of course via ko2 and then Garring Lane also ko2 and was never the same!! I remember he was ranked in the top 5 at the time!!

And then if I remember, Dixon became a steppingstone because of that one good win.

Some guys recover from a surprise upset to have good careers, but not Garcia.

Yeah I remember he fought Phil Jackson (another fringe 90's contender) and word was if he could pull another upset he would possibly get a title shot against Lennox Lewis as they were looking for a soft touch for that defense.. Well he lost to Jackson and then Jackson got that shot vs Lewis. Yeah Dixon then settled back into his role of opponent.

How about Marion Wilson I think the first time I saw him he was fighting a heavyweight named Boris Powell 3-0 at the time and I think Wilson was 5-0.. BP was from St. Louis which is close to my home town here so I was familiar with Powell. It was one of those tweener fights on ESPN top rank but of course I taped it because I taped the entire show every week. Well Wilson went on to fight everyone, finishing with a 12win 41 loss record. But I saw him get a draw vs Mercer which he probably deserved the win and I also remember him dropping Jeremy Williams on his face and cutting him at a time when many thought Jeremy Williams was the second coming of Mike Tyson!! Williams had Kevin Rooney training him and Bill Cayton managing (just like early Tyson) and he basically stalked around the ring pre fight just like Tyson looking mean and again doing his best Tyson menacing impression, and Jeremy Williams could punch like a monster, sadly he just couldn't take a punch!!!
