I don't think Jeremy Williams nom de guerre: "Half Man -Half Amazing" did him any favors, either. A fight between Williams and Michael Moorer would have been fun to watch. I would certainly favor Moorer, but both were weak chinned heavyweights with a dynamite punch. Anything could have happened.... Especially on TNF!

I always wanted to see a Moorer vs. Williams fight. I think they would have matched up very well.

Oh I can totally relate as I generally was alone as a boxing fan myself most of the time. My friends were much like yours in that we'd get together to watch the big fights but the other dudes I mentioned at my school weren't close friends. Just guys I'd talk up a boxing conversation with in auto shop or while passing in the halls. There was a convenient store by my house which sold ring magazine and I always wondered who the hell else ( other than myself ) bought copies. I used to literally watch for every edition each month.

I used to tape a lot of shlt too. Mostly the big fights but also some of the lesser network ones as well. There's probably still old tapes of mine somewhere in my parent's basement but it doesn't matter as I no longer have a device for viewing VHS tapes. Who does ?

Someone mentioned Boris Powell who was actually a pretty damn good prospect for a while. Didn't he eventually end up fighting Ruiz or someone later on ?

    awww Tuesday Night fights!!!!

fond memories, staying in on a Tuesday night treated to a live fight that was sometimes great :good

I would pick Cooper, could be a good fight while it lasted, I loved Cooper for some reason, he could wing that left hook with wild haymakers better than anyone, lol, they often would miss and whistle by the dudes head and that was still fun to watch, I knew he wasn't the greatest early on but I was always a fan :thumbsup

Nice thing I've noticed about this conversation is that it's kept the trolls away. Presumably because there's nothing for the ignorant to chime in about.

These types of threads and the positive decorum displayed by the fellow posters is one of the main reasons I started posting on here.

Now, there are threads where earnest debate is warranted, but I have learned that the ignore feature is my flriend.

I'm still pretty much alone when it comes to my love for boxing (except you all). I have some friends and family who will watch a big fight with me but no one I know is really into boxing like I am. The people in my life know who they can talk to when they want to talk boxing or settle an argument related to boxing though. My wife does genuinely enjoy it but she is more of a football fan.

I still talk boxing with my buddy from High School, we pretty much text about it on a daily basis. God bless texting, with work, a wife and children life stays busy and texting is so easy quick and convenient..
He will send me links to stuff he sees and vice versa plus we both have many dates ingrained into our brains so he will shoot me a text saying something like "today is March 18th we watched Tyson - Ruddock 1 at the Show - Me center (closed circuit baby) 25 YEARS AGO Today!!!!!!!!

Most of my crowd 5 to 6 dudes will come over for a big fight but I only really have 2 guys who are hardcore like me anymore.. And I'm not like I once was I stopped recording many moons ago. But I'll never part with my old stuff... And my interest has never gone away, abs it never will is my guess.. Many of my old friends seem to be more into MMA and of course the NFL. Which I like all 3 but boxing always comes first.

Magoo I was the one who Mentioned Powell earlier. And you're correct his first loss was to Ruiz. I hated Ruiz but he just kept winning there for a good stretch,

TNF was a staple of my younger years like people said earlier not just the boxing memories but it takes me back to watching in my teens. I remember it would air from 8-10 and then they'd reshow it at midnight. Murder She Wrote seemed to always be the show going off in those few mins waiting for 8 O'clock to come with my VCR remote in hand waiting to hit Rec!! Calling my homie on a land line lol to discuss the fight or fights. LONG LONG ago my friends!!

When I hear that opening tune I'm like literally transported back in time it's amazing. The old opening to HBO boxing gets me too.. If you're old enough you'll know the one it sounds like horns blowing that familiar tune, they should go back to that one, bad sadly they never will..

Heck yeah man, Bert is one of my all time faves. I remember him very early in his career on Top Rank boxing with Joe Frazier in his corner.

Oh yeah! The HBO opening would get me pumped. I had a few friends who would pitch in on the big PPV fights but they really weren't into it like I was. They'd call me "The Fight Doctor" Hookie Pacheco... not really understanding that Ferdie Pacheco was an actual physician.

I know. I'd get psyched listening to the opening soundtrack to HBO championship Boxing as well.

He was always fun to watch in both victory and defeat. He was just an all around tough guy who went out there to do his job. I believe Joe Frazier worked with Bonecrusher Smith for a while too.
