The fight between Holyfield Vs Foreman is amazingly coming up to 34 year's ago. Now seems to be a good time to look back on that fight. What were your thoughts going in to the fight? Did anyone think George could possibly win? Or that it would go the distance?
For me it went as expected, the speed and workrate were on Holyfield's side and were decisive. I was not surprised that the match ended on points considering the jaws of the two fighters.
I Had an anxious feeling in my stomach, that George was going to be Hurt in this fight. Not many had gone the distance with Holyfield up to then, and I could imagine George being stopped on his feet after soaking up a barrage from the younger guy. So glad that wasn't the case..
One of my favorite fights. Action packed and fun! Those two warriors put up one hell of a fight that night.
I expected Foreman to lose hard. In fact, I thought it was a bad idea to have him in there at all. I was excited to see George stun him on several occasions. I knew before Holy gave his feedback on the fight that he had been seriously hurt. George never looked better in his comeback imo.
Evander really made George look better then he was, I know he’s recently passed but it’s the truth IMO “comeback” Foreman much as I loved him and I’d have been a rabid cheering fan every time he showed up to fight but… Evander didn’t need to do half of what he did to win, won big on the cards anyway much like say when he fought Cooper he was so much better that even when he was doing the wrong thing he won, I don’t really enjoy that fight at all but it was a feat, my favourite comeback bouts are Coetzer, Moorer and Cooney - I like the Qawi fight too but not for Big George’s performance, just a whacky bout.
Great fight, that 7th round was something memorable. I had Holyfield winning 116-111, but big George was competitive throughout the whole fight and had his moments.
