The fight was scheduled for 45rounds ,Johnson had no choice but to carry the fight to Willard and try to get him out of there. He knew that at his age and in his condition he had no chance of staying 45rds in that humidity.

I still find it fitting, Johnson was great for his era but I don' see him being competitie with a modern fighter the caliber of lennox

I ponder if he lived to see Lewis. If so, he might change his mind. My own grandfather was a boxing fan who lived long enough to see Wlad as a established champion. Once in a while we watched boxing, oh my he'd pan anyone for not giving action like they used to.

A Dempsey and Louis fan I asked him how do you think they would fare vs. modern guys like Lewis or Klitschko. His reply was, if they were just 200 pounds they'd murder em'

Yeah but my granddad tends to err on the side of old time fighters. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if he picked Patterson to beat Anthony Joshua or Riddick Bowe.

As usual you're wrong. The great UNDEFEATED Jeffries was turn of the century champ. But hey, you never let little thins like facts get in your way. Why start now?

    Define legit.

I don't think that he beat anybody at the elite level who was as big as Lewis, but he beat a lot of bigger heavyweights.

This is certainly not a weakness in his resume, relative to other pre war fighters!

I don't think that people should be dismissing Johnson's chances here.

He wasn't any smaller than Evander Holyfield when he won the title, and he arguably had a better style for dealing with bigger opposition.

The idea that he built his resume against smaller fighters, is an artifact of the remaining film.

He was up against bigger men in a lot of his key fights.
