Alfonso Zamora Vs Carlos Zarate [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv64hGJKEBE[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOv87_HLp5Y&feature=relmfu[/ame] Almost 35 years ago to the day, two of Mexico's most potent fire power came square on in this eagerly anticipated match up. With a combined record of 74-0(73) going into the fight, (Zamora 28-0(28 ) and Zarate 44-0(43) it was guanteed to be fireworks. Both men held belts WBA/WBC but according to boxrec neither was on the line:huh A great little fight this one and defo worth a watch (only 4 rounds so won't take long). I felt Zamora had the better of the first 2 rounds before Zarate piccked it up half way through the 3rd. Getting put down early in the 4th didn't help and nor did trading with Zarate when hurt, but gotta love the lil man for doing so:yep Does anybody know what the comotion at the end of the fight was about:think looked like 1 of Zamora people went over to Team Zarate but not sure. What the **** was that streaker doing as well, keepng his clothes on.......Shame:nut Anyway, give a watch and let us know what you think :bbb :bbb :bbb
good stuff ..... loved the little kick off after the fight between the 2 little middle aged mexicans lol
Over the weight LP, hence no titles :good Agreed beforehand, no weight making shenanigans like Zarate-Gomez that I know of. Obviously they were former stablemates. Zamora's old man pulled his son out And it was very bitter with contractual disputes and what not. That's the commotion at the end as far as I know as well. Bad blood in this one for sure, messy build-up. So appropriate that arguably the greatest meeting of well-matched power punching gunslingers would have a Wild West moment in the beginning, with the seemingly philosophical intruder battered and thrown out by the old bill :rofl Zarate was a class above Zamora, even if the Olympian was one of the rawest hitters in history. Zarate was more poised under fire and more durable. Great fight IMO. One of my favourites between two fighters I really dig.
:good yea think i read their trainer sold Zamora contract back to his old man I was thinkin the other day, about the build up to this fight if it were happening today. Thats why i made the thread really, i think it would of been Massive, can't really think of a comparison, maybe Donaire - Gamboa on a slightly lesser scale. You know Zarate is the only to go on 2 seperate 20 fight KO streaks:deal
Commotion at the end is Zamora's Dad smacking Zarate's manager (and Zamoras ex-manager) as his son is still hurt haha Great fight though, Zarate is just so good.
Zarate and Olivares would have been a great fight, but I think Zarate would have beaten him. But I'll hold my hands up and say it is pretty much a blind pick. I may need some help on these boys when I get to my bantamweight section
The Olivares that beat Rose would give Zarate the kind of dynamic shellacking Gomez did. The best Zarate Vs Ruben somewhere in his prime where he could be caught as he liked a night out, well then I'd favour Zarate. But Olivares of Rose is that kind of fighter IMO. And consider that past his best and out of his best weight he gave Arguello a boxing lesson for large durations of the contest. He has more to dip into than Zarate, Olivares could box as well as bang, and could absorb a lot of punishment even if he could be hurt. Zarate would fit in well with the Olivares-Herrera-Chucho fights IMO. They'd all pick up wins against each other, just as they did in reality.
