In 480 BC, an Allied Greek City States Army led by King Leonidis of Sparta marched to the Thermopylae Pass to meet, and hold a massive, advancing Persian Army. The Greeks were outnumbered somewhere about 30/1. However, the pass was narrow, preventing encirclement, only so many men could participate in the fighting at once. And the Greeks holding this path...were ****ing Spartans, bro. Highly trained, well equipped, well built, P4P ranked, steadfast warriors who trained and came in shape for all of their fights. Attributes needed would be elite level stamina, insane toughness, KO power, fearlessness, unflinching determination and the ability to hold ground. We narrow the pass down, the Spartans are 12 in total, 3 ranks of 4. Thier opposition...360 shithouse Strawweight journeymen with losing records and disgraceful glass jaws. Both sides are unarmed. Both sides fight using only boxing technique. Think phonebooth style. Butting, clinching and smothering will occur, but no kicking or gouging, bollock shots or any other sly dirty ****. Which 12 boxers would you choose, ideal for this situation? Which fighters possess the attributes for this type of fight? Which rank would put each fighter in? Different attributes would be more suitable for each of the 3 seperate ranks. You decide who is ideal for which. Here is an example.... Front Rank: --- Joe Frazier --- Marvin Hagler --- David Tua --- Rocky Marciano 2nd Rank: --- Lennox Lewis --- Tommy Hearns --- Bob Foster --- Sandy Saddler Reserve Rank: --- Jack Dempsey --- Mike Tyson --- Jake Lamotta --- Harry Greb
Frazier? Was lucky to meet a far past prime Ali, was blown out by the crude and mediocre Foreman two times. Bum. Hagler? Was beaten by a past prime ww who came of a long layoff. Bum. Tua? Never did anything of note. Bum. Marciano? Only beat old fighters and fomer lhws. Bum. Lewis? Blown out by bums twice. Bum. Hearns? Blown out by mediocre Hagler and Leonard. Bum. Foster? Are you serious? Who did he ever beat? Bum. Sandy Saddler? Only reason he ever beat someone was because he was a foul bum. Dempsey? Ducked everybody. Bum. Tyson? Quitter! Bum. LaMotta? What did he ever do? Get beaten up by a ww? Bum. Greb? Lost all the time. Bum. I´d only need Duran.
I actually think this is a pretty good topic John L Sullivan must have a mortgage on one of the front row spots. He has a demonstrated proven record of KOing these type of guys quickly and better than anyone else, his hands will definitely stand up, his stamina is proven he has good speed i think he is one of the front boys. I would have him front centre tearing into the Iron Mike tyson must also be in teh front line, but he needs solid back up, i am a little worried about his hands, because as proved in the Mitch Green fight, they are brittle and can break. Jack Dempsey stands out as the third attacker his attack was relentless, and the numbers would not be unfamiliar from the hobo days. Back Row Centre has to be Fitzsimmons. The master of science, he can pick his shots perfectly and KO them cold from both sides, as soon as it is required. Backing up Dempsey would be Foreman. not fast enough or good enough stamina to hold front row, but good enough to step into his shows at times, to give him a break and if anyone causes a jim Flynn style KO, Foreman will let Dempsey recover his senses. Also, he would be lethal once Dempsey engages if the early KO isnt forthcoming. Behind Tyson is Marciano. If Tyson gasses, he needs stamina to back him up. Marciano is the man. This leaves the back three. I think JOhnson on the far right is the choice. A master of battle royals, he can float forward at the right time and clinch a few guys to set them up for a foreman right. Johnson will come out untouched! Behind Marciano, i am going to gamble on Wlad Klitchkso. Big hitting, strong, and good stamina. He can cover for Tyson if Tysons hands break, or he gets tired and will float forward from time to time. This leaves the back centre position. Louis is the perfect fighter but i dont think he is the mand for the spot. I think that Tunney might be worth a gamble. The best boxing brain ever, he can direct everyone around beautifully. Ali is another who can do it all, but i am not sure he would command the same respect from his team. Maybe a Sam Langford or Peter Jackson or Jem MAce might be worth the spot. i think i will have to think about this final sweepers position. I think Foreman should line up behind him. He is a little slow to start off up front, but he can knock anyone cold who even causes a bit of a blip
Good idea for a thread, though! Front Rank: --- Lennox --- Golota --- Vitali --- Primo ----- Max Baer (get some walls in there, to trim the incoming hordes by putting the stomp on them) 2nd Rank: --- Hearns --- Julian Jackson --- Bob Foster ---Dempsey (get some punchers in there to clean them out some more. Not Tyson... he'd get tired.) Reserve Rank: --- adrunkLewJenkins ---Kid McCoy --- Jake Lamotta --- Frtizie Zivic------ Duran------Bummy Davis, take your pick. ('Dem sadists will make the survivors wish they were iced by the bangers or stomped by the monsters)
I would never ever want Duran bringing up the rear. Seriously though, would you trust him to get your back, poos regardless? Front Rank(Big Boys: Range and Power): --- Lennox Lewis --- Max Baer --- Wladimir Klitschko ---Tim Witherspoon 2nd Rank(Grinders: Stamina, Chin, Heart, Power): --- Rocky Marciano --- Joe Frazier --- Evander Holyfield ---- Jim Jeffries Reserve Rank(Cold Blooded Assasins-One hit one kill after the big boys are tired): --- Jack Dempsey --- Mike Tyson --- Joe Louis --- Bob Fitzsimmons
I'd just wedge Butterbean in the front of the pass, and have Marvin Hagler and Sonny Liston about ten feet behind to sort out any little ****ers who manage to climb past him. Ideally, I'd launch a pre-emptive attack on Strawweight Persia with an army of Henry Armstrongs.
Front rank: Foreman, Lewis, Lyle, Vitali Second rank: Tyson, Frazier, Dempsey, Maciano Third rank: Ali, Louis, Robinson, Graziano
Good lists. Though you guys seem to have a different approach to me, with rangy guys upfront and the swarmers in the 2nd rank. My train of thought was that it'd be a cluster-**** upfront, with the strawweights trying to smother and overwhelm the front rank. So i placed good inside fighters at the front, and tall, rangy KO punchers in the 2nd rank, who could punch over and between the front rank, akin to spear thrusts.
