Chocolate boxed well in the vein of the later greats Robinson and Griffith. Chocolate. 2. This round was much rougher, although less exciting, with the clinches increasing in number. Chocolate. (Huge gap of rounds not in film) 14. Battalino appears to be tiring. Chocolate. 15. Vicious finale. Kid Chocolate appeared to be dominating the round, chopping Battalino up with powerful hooks and uppercuts, and plenty of them. Battalino never stopped firing back however, and by the end of the round was giving as good as he got. Almost, even-Chocolate. While Chocolate won every filmed round, evidently he lost, or was robbed, and Battalino won the decision. I can't complain since I only got to see 4 of the entire 15 rounds. Verdict: Looked like a pretty good fight going off of film. I can't see the value in it though.
The value is simply in seeing two great fighters, both with limited footage, going all out for the title. Not much value in scoring it, I’ll say that much.
This wasn't that good of a film. I can't say I agree that Chocolate dominated the last round. His punches seemed to be to the body with no effect on Battalino while the Bat responded a couple of times with good flurries. Off this film I wouldn't question the officials' decision. I would like to see a better film of Chocolate. I don't know much about Battalino.
Here ya go. The full fight is up in a few different variations, but this is by far the cleaner version. I would love to see the full fight in this quality. This content is protected
This, @Jason Thomas, this is the clearest of Chocolate's fights, the most significant, and the most exciting. A real superfight in its entirety on the internet. Great fight. I will be rewatching it and posting on it in a couple of weeks.
Yeah, it’s definitely the best full length film I’ve seen for that time period. Great fight. Great fighters.
How Canzoneri manages to slip those shots, in positions that would be a huge danger-zone to any other fighter, always amazes me.
