Fighters with limited resumes fighting for the title, perhaps?

I take your point, but we are comparing Johnson with Chisora, not Johnson with Spinks,Bey ect.

Strange match up. Battling Jim lost to tier two and three level fighters. He was not known for winning. He was a durable joruneyman type. The Ross Purity of his times if you will with a bit more gusto, but less skills.

I think Chisora who is undefeated and not lost to tier two and three fighters, and who also has better skills would take the decision.

A better question would be, where would Chisora rate among Johnson's title opponents. Better than a few of them for sure!

Chisora has not lost to 2nd and 3rd tier opponents but he has only 14 fights and so is untested.

I watched three of his fights last night, they were against novices, he has fast hands but arm punches and is easy to reach with a jab.
What footage of Jim Johnson enables you to make this claim?

Chisora is undefeated but has fought nobody of any stature,so this is also meaningless.
If Chisora had met Langford , Jeanettte and McVey,would he be undefeated?
Johnson met Langford in his 11th fight,it was Langford's 81st.
In his 15th fight Johnson drew with 40 fight Sam McVey.
THIS THREAD IS ABOUT BATTLING JIM JOHNSON NOT JACK JOHNSON PLEASE CONFINE YOURSELF TO THAT.

I'm really surprised Chisora is getting a shot at Wladimir.
It's a gimme defence, an easy one, Wlad's probably earned it.
Larry holmes fought a few Chisoras in his reign too.
But Chisora's an unknown. I think there might be a David Haye angle to this, Wlad choosing to knock out a Londoner.

Battling Jim was more credible than Chisora, but he was barely credible.

    Head-to-head, I have no idea.

We can have an opinion though ,which presumably is what this Forum is about.

Like everybody else I was dissapointed Haye did not get it on with either Klit, and mildly disgusted that he has picked Audrey Harrison for a defence.

I have read that K2 the Bros , in the guise of their promotional group, tie challengers up for three fights, and make draconian conditions to challengers, this might explain why some challengers have been reluctant to take the bait.
But,I would agree there appears to be an element of," let them get old ", in play.
Having said that Chisora is not ranked, Briggs was not ranked, are we now going down the Terry Daniels, Ron Stander path?
Certainly not the way to get back on US TV.
I suppose, if you can attract thousands of undiscerning German fans to watch you ,methodically beat up undeserving challengers ,there is not much incentive to seek out the best opposition.

According to you we must focus on the fact that Jim Johnson was" only 26 " , when he fought Jack Johnson .

You have been strangely silent on the fact that he had 40 fights under his belt and had drawn with McVey,and Jeanette ,and beaten
    Cowler
    Smith
    Ross
No comment from you either, on the fact that Chisora is also 26 and has had, just 14 fights ,the majority of them against novices and no hopers.
The only name on his resume is a 37 year old 273lbs ,
Danny Williams who lost a novice tournament ,just prior to that ,and was described by leading boxing expert Colin Hart ,as "having been shot for years". So 14 fight Chisora is a credible opponent for Wlad , who fought 2 months ago, but 40 fight Jim Johnson was not, for Jack Johnson, who had been out of the ring for a year and a half?

Do you think Chisora would be unbeaten ,if he had faced McVey ,and Jeanette, or Langford and Clark ,in his first 15 fights?

Agreed with this. I am ready for those boys to move on. A young heavy tourney might reveal some new talent out there which we don't recognize as being such yet.

Lets hope so, we have two very big fish in a shallow pond,at the moment, and when they come face to face, they swim in opposite directions.
Haye might not beat either of them, but I naively thought he would chance his arm.
I could forgive him the mandatory Ruiz defence ,but not defending against Audrey.
A young US heavy ,who turned out to be the real deal could be the saviour of the Heavyweight division, imagine another young Tyson emerging?
It would focus all eyes on the big men.
I actually like the Klits ,but let's not pretend they are exciting , and TV friendly.
