Interesting thing. Boxrec has Levinsky as #5 ATG. Griffin is only #16 of active fighters. Nevertheless I would pick Griffin by late rounds stoppage. Levinsky was never beltholder and only fought title eliminators that he often lost. On the other hand we have Griffin who even beat James Toney two times. I'd say Griffin KO10 Levinsky
Levinsky was the lineal champion and he got there by beating an all time great in Jack Dillon. He also beat a lot of top heavyweights of the period. His credentials are prety good. Having said that it is dificult to say how this fight would go with no film of Levinsky. The 12 round distance would favour Griffin.
I fairly heavily favor the vastly superior to James Toney Griffin in this one. It is a joke so many Americans rank Toney higher than Calzaghe.
Ahh yes China, but you forget about the James Toney rule- any time he loses, if it was due to coming in out of shape, weight draining, or general disinterest, the bout is to be treated as strictly an exhibition match with no bearing on his actual record and/or legacy. :!:
Levinsky fought title eliminators against Dillon or Grebb that he often lost. Finally he lost a title bout against Georges Carpentier. Jack Dempsey beat him up in 3, Gene Tunney won by UD. Griffin all the way.
Dillon, Greb, Carpinter and Dempsey are all time greats. I could argue that they are all better than anybody Griffin fought. There is no shame in loosing to fighters like this.
