Thursday @ Casino de Montréal. The vacant WBA Continental super lightweight title and vacant IBF super lightweight Inter-Continental title will be on the line. Neither man is actually rated top 15 by either org at present, but Dzhukembaev (which can also be transliterated as "Jukembayev") is WBC #14. Vázquez was the IBF lightweight champion from 2010 until 2014, and last year moved up to welterweight (capturing the WBF national Mexican championship) - returning now to light welterweight for the first time since his 2017 knockout loss to Josh Taylor.
Massive step up for the unbeaten 28 year old Kazakh southpaw, at least professionally. (he was 203-40 in the amateurs)
Batyrzhan batters Titere from pillar to post and stops him late. I'm a pretty big fan of Batyrzhan, and I've been meaning to do a thread on him for quite some time now, but I've been being lazy when it comes to my EY threads. But when I get around to doing a few more of them, he's at the top of my list to get one. He's defensively quite sound, good solid footwork, good jab, good punch selection and cuts the ring off fairly well. He's all around a fairly complete fighter.
Shame how Vasquez went from being the number 1 lightweight in the world to a welterweight gatekeeper.
