Its the refs job to look after the fighters and stop them taking unnecessary punishment. Bayless did that, I thought it was a tad early but Katsidis took about 20 unanswered precise shots and his head was being bounced back time and again and he look hurt. Bayless could have let it go on but that would have just resulted in a brutal KO imo, Katsidis was getting hammered.

Perfect stoppage imo. Great work by Bayless.

i thought it was a bit premature, people saying that katsidis was'nt throwing anything back take another look about 2 seconds before the stoppage he threw and landed a left hook and had his hands up protecting himself.
just take another look it's about the 2minute mark

I'm a bit torn. As a Katsidis fan i would have liked to see him given a chance to recover and possibly come back the next round because after all he hadn't been down yet and he has amazing recuperative powers. On the other hand, he had over a minute to recover from the initial barrage and he seemed alarmingly unable to pull himself together. He seemed to be completely lost without finding his way back and maybe with all the punishment to the body hit was all beyond him.

i thought the bayless did a good job. he locked his eyes on katisidis in the last few seconds before the stoppage, waiting for the right moment to cut in. had the fight gone on, i guess it's clear to most that jmm was stopping him anyway. katsidis wasn't firing back, didn't have the mental state to move away from the punches nor to clinch if he intended to recover and marquez clearly still had power in his shots. unlike in castillo vs corrales where both were equally hurt and exhausted.

You know what Marquez would have done to him had Bayless not stepped in?

    Come on. Be realistic.

So based on your logic because there is this once in a generation chance (.000002%) that we can have a great come back FOR YOUR viewing pleasure, we should let Kat take more head shots that is guaranteed to increases his chances for mental disorder like dementia and Alzhemiers even though it was clear to everyone in that room that he was losing.

If the guy did not protest it, is NOT stopping the fight for you or for Katsidis?

Katsidis would rather die in there, similar to many warriors who give it their all.
(YES including certain fighter's who ESB hates, I mention no names)

All we have to do is watch the post fight interview, Kats didn't protest or claim early stoppage. (That's all I need to hear)

Premature was the Berto stoppage, IMO.

I understand it, (saved MK from further damage) but still a little pre-mature for my liking... MK was still in there throwing down at the time of the stoppage.

Bit of a shocker (and a let-down) ...but not the worst stoppage I guess.

100 percent agree. Refs these days, sadly, frequently stop fights too early. IMO, if a guy is on his feet and hasn't hit the deck, generally you shouldn't stop it. ****, give the guy a chance to come back! He had Marquez on the canvas for goodness sake!

These squeamish refs, and the boxing fans that applaud them, are ruining the sport. In the old days, they let fights go to their natural conclusion.

It was a good stoppage, he was keeping eye contact with Katsidis the whole way before he waive it. Katsidis had no complaints and fought very bravely.

Exactly!!!! Nice to see that some boxing fans still get it! Fights should go to their NATURAL conclusions, not be stopped early by squeamish refs. If you don't like a little violence, you shouldn't be refereeing - or watching boxing for that matter.
