At this time Bazooka was eyeing a mega fight at Feather against Sanchez, but after the loss Bazooka moved back down to Super bantam, untill 84 when he beat Laporte for the WBC Feather weight title. Was there any talk of Gomez vs Chandler??? I know Gomez beat Pintor whom Chandler was unable to come to terms with.

Does he do the same to Chandler, or does the slick Chandler do what Pintor was unable to do? Pintor was up on 1 of the 3 cards at the time of stoppage....can chandler pull off the upset in the 82 neighborhood????

    Bazooka (of the Pintor fight)

Vs Chandler (of the Carter fight circa 1982)

If you're gonna beat Gomez, you're gonna have to be two things; at least as big as him, and busy.

Chandler, though rangy for a bantamweight, was the smaller of the two. He also liked to control the pace and fight in spots. Gomez wouldn't allow that, and would be on top of him all the time, punching, turning, spinning, pushing, shoving, elbowing...........not the kind of fight Chandler would excel at.

Gomez of 122 to 130 is just too strong for the 118 Chandler.......:deal:bbb

Gomes KO's Chandler at 122 in about 12 rds........ Peace....

Gomez was one of the greatest pure boxers I ever saw when he wanted to, slipping punches and hitting w/ great power to body and head. against skinny 118 pound chandler, who was no speed demon or great puncher, Gomez wins inside of 7. An easy fight that would look like a mismatch. Chandler couldn't keep Wilfredo off him amd had not the punch, toughness or heart of Pintor. Gomez is one of the 5 greatest fighters I saw in MY lifetime. At his best at 122, from 77-80, just a perfect fighter. He had everything, and at 122, an inpenitrable chin.

I'm a huge Chandler, but thinking about it at this time, NO one beats Wilfredo at 122, though I think Jeff gives Gomez a tough fight before losing in 11 rounds by TKO.

The post DID say the Gomez of the Pintor fight. Well this Gomez although still formidable, had lost a step from the Sanchez beating. If Chandler could retain the swiftness & boxing ability to keep moving for 15 rounds. Joltin' Jeff could verywell pull off what Pintor ame damn close in doing... Keeping his hands constantly moving and causing Gomez' eyes to swell. Chandler had great stamina, if he got the early lead. Jeff could keep away in the late rounds and get s decision win. probably a scenario pretty close to a Pintor fight, if they had met in a unification match. But a PreSanchez Gomez... It would prettymuch go like most of you guys have already stated.

I agree with this, although as a huge Chandler fan, Gomez is still the clear favorite....and should win this. I think Jeff fares at least as well as Pintor did, but probably drops a close one.

Not so sure, Chandler was a bit of a better technician than Pintor. Pintor seemed to be in a better position going into the late rounds. and Gomez rallied & caught Pintor. Pintor more known as a late rounds fighter, wilted. Chandler also has great stamina & just might be smart enough, not to get caught.

Jeff could give Wilfredo a run, but this is the division where Wilfredo held the kingship, so he gives a vallant effort in losing a game 15 round UD.

Chandler, as good as he was, would be hurt, ground down and quite brutally stopped before round 11.
