What is next for Isufu? Will he ever again fight on American soil? On American television? At all? After a couple of VERY unnecessary career setbacks (thoroughly robbed against Vernon, and the Winky fight was a hopeless, ill-advised affair that really proved nothing for either man), what are his best options to set things right? He definitely needs to return to LMW if anything. And start making fights happen there soon, as he's rather far out of position for title contention at the moment. His recognition could carry him into opportunities to feast on a Verno Phillips or Sechew Powell to get back in the running. Perhaps more satisfactorily than vying for a belt at his age (especially since his chances with a Spinks or Simms are questionable), he could revenge any of the three losses he has against guys who are actually his size. DLH is probably not chomping at the bit, but if the well runs dry and all the lucrative opponents are unavailable, Ike does have a vaguely recognizable name to the public (if only for having dropped a controversial decision to DLH). Retiring Feroz, the only guy who has legitimately defeated him in a fairly matched fight, would be a great trophy if that head didn't already have a spot reserved on Mayo's mantle. :yep And speaking of Mayorga victims, Forrest's decision to pick on Baldomir to chase a trinket instead of manning up and giving Quartey a rematch tells us all we need to know about the possibility of a second encounter. Unless Quartey can plow through enough 154 lbers to become the #1 contender to the vacant WBC belt Forrest is gunning for..:think Or he could fight a few bums in Accra and retire. Which, sadly, he probably will. And can you really blame him?
Ikes still a dam good fighter to me hes strong, experienced, world class jab, solid defense etc I read hes setting up a hospital or something in Ghana and plans to fight there before the year ends to stay busy. Id like to see him fight in October smash a guy in Ghana and get himself on the undercard of HBO card next maybe vs a Sechell Powell or Richard Gutierez. Id love him to fight the winner of Vargas-Mayorga or even DLH agian.
Sure Ike was competitive and made Winky hustle, but was there ever any doubt of the outcome? There were a few people like me who deep down were hoping he could pull off the upset (although I'm a fan of both) but nobody realistically expected it, and it would have been one of the biggest, unlikeliest upsets ever had it come off. Quartey is not a middleweight. Wink is a big, strong middleweight, and one of the top three p4p fighters in the world. If there was anyone who didn't think it was a foregone conclusion before the opening bell, it was Ike. Which just makes it even sadder. Good name win for Wink, he got to look really impressive against a talented fighter (albeit a much smaller and outclassed one), and get over his lingering jealousy from earlier in their careers. But for Ike it just means two consecutive losses on his record. Didn't need to be that way. The moral victory of knowing he beat Forrest, and being able to say he hung in there for 12 rounds against a p4p talented, big (although not a devastating puncher) middleweight doesn't change what's in black-and-white, or take the sting away.
Cool. Got a link? And yeah facing the winner of September 8th would be a perfect way to get back on track, he stops either one of those guys right now.
I also thought he was robbed against Forrest which was a tough pill to swallow since I badly wanted The Viper to make a career comeback. Met Quartey @Mandalay Bay about 8 years ago, nice guy and was also hoping he would bounce back too. Instead, it seems he's vanished into bolivian.
Quartey v.s. De La Hoya was a great fight at the Welter. If DLH had not knocked him down in the last round, he would have lost the fight.
I thought the kid beat the **** out of Forrest wouldnt like to see him make another come back he is too old
