So it seems Ike's not completely disgusted with the sport. The man with four career losses on paper (two legitimate and the other two, ahem, peculiar) looks to be penciled in as returning to the ring in his native Accra next Friday, against the well-travelled TBA. I'm glad to have him keep the gloves on while he has some decent years left in him (really, he did nothing wrong against Winky, just had no business being in with someone so much bigger). I'd hate to see him waste that time fighting record-padders at home instead of coming back, even twice-bitten, once more unto the Western breach and into the elite welter mix. But then, you couldn't really hold such a decision against the man.
Yeah! Subtract his last two fights - the despicable robbery and the physical mismatch that should have never been booked in the first place - and he was actually building up some decent momentum. Would've been a good time to have him re-enter the 147 picture. Good matchups to have been made - and still are now. Even with the time off, he's retained enough to be competitive with all the top guys.
Quartey is one of my favorites...best jab of all time IMO....he kind of ****ed up when he fought winky though....and he beat forrest and DLH IMO
Ah, ok cool. I thought you meant his form during the fight was flawed or something. There's nothing he could have done to win. :verysad
Ya know, for all his toughness and guile, he seems to go to sleep in fights for rounds at a time. His reputation as a constantly forward marching pressure fighter tough guy doesn't seem to hold up to what actually happens when I watch him fight. That's why I'm not upset at all with the Forrest fight; they both looked like **** and neither deserved to win. I'm fine with leaving him in the past with his great fight with DLH and move on to some younger blood.
He may not beat everybody at this point...I'm not expecting him to unify a division or anything. But hell, he could snatch a belt and defend against a few Andre Berto types. Absolutely! :happy
I love this guy ..this guy has the greatest recovery in boxing history Vargas beating him remains one of the sports greatest mystery just because its a legit win
