BBBOC rules for boxing shows

Depends entirely on the promotion. Obviously there is a massive difference between a smaller show which may not even be televised and a big PPV event where television sales will dwarf the gate receipt.

I get the feeling Hearn would be dying to do a PPV show at the moment. Captive audience who have not had any sport to watch for god knows how long.

 

Any sort of PPV would be massive atm. I agree with Hayers, think the sales would be off the charts.

Think it could end up in complete disaster too if anyone involved becomes infected with the virus and then suffers serious illness as a result.

Selfishly I would be grateful for some live sport.

 

At this point I would pay the usual £14.99 PPV price or whatever it is. If it’s a decent five fight show headlined by Whyte v Povetkin it’s a no brainer. Would be good to take a break from Netflix and FIFA.

 

If Germany can get 36 players before any backroom staff, refs and stadium workers to finish the football season very soon. This shouldn’t be too unrealistic. Then again we are Britain and have already made a complete shambles of the Coronavirus situation.

They could maybe try and do the next round of the Golden contract.

 

I maybe wrong, but boxing with no fans is not going to work for TV.


I see the wrestling carried on with no crowds, and ratings have tanked despite as mentioned you would think people would want to watch new content...

 

It’s a fair point but the markets and content are different and I think it would work. Right now blokes are just stocking up on cans at the supermarket for the weekend and just drinking with no sport. The casual market will be dying to have a nice drink on a Saturday night with some fights on the box, especially your typical matchroom casual fan.

With a big name like Whyte I honestly think it would do huge numbers especially if it’s priced at £10 or less.

 

There will be no boxthing in July in my opinion.

There has to be a massive reduction in deaths, hospital admissions and new cases with the R figure falling like David Price in the Povetkin fight.

The availability of emergency services combined with the inability to undertake a professional training camp renders these plans obsolete at that time even behind closed doors.

Will be surprised if there are any boxing cards before 1 October and that is if the relaxation of lockdown measures does not result in another huge spread of the virus.

 

Got to say mate this crisis has been very poorly managed from day one and the lockdown time could have been halved if they got the finger out in late February and not waited until they saw the disaster in Italy.

As we sit in our homes, following the lockdown rules (some reading the Weekly Matchroom Newsletter), there are loads of planes coming INTO our country from the worst hit places including New York, Madrid and Italy with no tests or quarantine for passengers.

The fookers stand up and are proud that the NHS has not been overrun but no mention of the run on funeral directors where over 26,000 families have lost a valued family member.

Watched the red zone on Sky about 6 weeks ago and never dreamed that we would have a bigger disaster in our country.

The crisis has turned into a catastrophe

 

I don’t understand how they think it won’t happen again when they get rid of lockdown. When it’s relaxed a lot more people will have it and not know it than when we went into lockdown so surely we’ll be in danger of a far bigger spike. If it’s not safe enough to be in a pub then it’s not safe enough to go into a work place. That says it all really. They’ll say there will be social distancing measures but I know that is impossible in my job and many others.

 

I get your point but you also have to consider you have a general public who like sport, who during the last two months or so would have had all manner of sport to watch but have been reduced to Belarusian football. A nominally big fight without anyone in attendance would be weird, but just like a big football match, you can essentially guarantee a massive audience.

One figure that has been consistent throughout has been that the number of people dying without any underlying conditions has remained around 5% of the daily total, no matter whether we've been having a hundred deaths or a thousand. And remember, 'underlying conditions' doesn't include age; this is why you see things like 'today in England, 391 deaths have been recorded, of which 20 had no underlying conditions. Those 20 were aged 49 to 98.'

Essentially if the NHS can cope, the chances of a healthy person of healthy weight who is under sixty dying of coronavirus is absolutely tiny. Sadly, until a vaccine or more effective testing, the same cannot be said at all for older people or those who are at risk.

 

You sound like me. I’ve been wondering why on earth everyone isn’t wanting answers to the questions you allude to there. Nobody seems arsed, the **** is getting an easy ride because he faked he was sicker than he was.
I read an article about why we haven’t closed borders and all the answers from the MPs and scientists were very vague and made no sense. They said there was no science that says shutting borders would help. They think we’re all brain dead, saying it wouldn’t help, when as you say we were and are still letting all sorts in unchecked. It makes me laugh what was the point in bringing all them first lot in from China and quarantining them in Arrow Park if they were just going to allow anyone from the worst countries in after that! It says to me they haven’t had a clue all along.

 

I hope your positive attitude is proven correct, but I am far too cynical at the best of times, let alone now! I do not see this happening (Boxing on TV or Boxing in front of no fans) anytime soon.


Maybe it might be viable in some form in the new year.
