People don't seem to understand that the BBBofC, despite all their faults, DO keep British professional boxing together to a large extent.
With one authority that is regarded as the ONLY TRUE authority in the land, boxing still carries on like a proper sport in many ways.

If the BBBofC is undermined so that it falls, the sport of professional boxing with descend into the same anarchy as minor sports like kick-boxing, powerlifting etc. where there are about two dozen "federations" with different rules and standards.
Boxing is pretty much like that on the global level anyway, but it would be ridiculous if that was to be the situation within this country.
    Maybe it's inevitable.

True, the majority of the responses on here tend to support the undermining of the BBBofC.

Rival British boxing federations will come out of the woodwork soon enough.
Possibly Frank Warran will be the first big promoter to split away. If the BBBofC withdraw his license he'll have no choice but to either use minor Euro outfits, or join in some rival British outfit.

I daresay the conspiracies are going on right now, as we speak.

Hypocritical when you consider that the BBBoC undermined the BUI to force their way to 'co-sanction an Irish Title fight' for Rogan-Fury. I didnt hear too much of an outcry about their meddling into a title fight from another country.

Who is hypocritical ? I'm just stating the likely future consequences. Alphabet soup mess etc.

I don't know the details of what went on in Rogan v Fury, but the fight took place in Belfast, which is still Britain actually.
The BBBofC has a Northern Ireland Division, so it would be normal for them to be involved in any professional fight within N.I.

The board are there for the good of British Boxing!

If you like many other's want Boxing to become even more of a minority support thats fine as that's where its heading.

At the behest of the promoter involved, tv and the BBBoC the Irish Title fight involving Fury-Rogan was co-sanctioned by the BBBoC and the long standing tradition of the Irish title being fought over 10 rounds was changed at whim to 12 to suit the aforementioned parties. BUI should never have backed down, but they did.

The BUI and BBBoC both operate in Northern Ireland. There are pros and cons for both. The BBBoC obviously offers the prestigious British Title to Northern Ireland boxers. An advantage of the BUI is that I understand that their costs for a licence for a boxer or referee is a fraction of the BBBoC fee.

The amateur system differs, as the IABA is an all-Ireland body. But, the central point remains, the BBBoC are total and utter hypocrites to cry wolf over jurisdiction infringements. And as I have said earlier in this thread, if they were more transparent and democratic and actually addressed many of the perennial complaints that have went on for years, they would get my support too.

No I dont want that, but how many times have we heard the collective roar of dismay "these types of things are killing boxing" and **** all is done about it by the Board?

They obviously aren't perfect and did wrong in the Rogan-Fury case with interfering with Irish title conditions, but as you say they've always sanctioned fights in N.I. and I'd be surprised if they have co-sanctioned fights or worked closely with the BUI before.

It's not quite the same as an outfit from Luxembourg sanctioning a massive fight in London with the UK's biggest promoter putting on the show, featuring a fighter who has been deemed 'unfit' and never held a Luxembourg license before ... ... but I get your point. :good

The BBBofC isn't perfect at all. But they are about as good as it gets, if you look around the world or look at other combat sports where several federations compete - the alternative is far worse.
    That's the point.

Generally the BBBoC and BUI have always worked well and the BBBoC of course have jurisdiction in NI too. I only cite this as an example, in the main they have worked well together.

Overall, I am hoping that this will force the Board to be more democratic with its membership and more transparent with their procedures. As I have said earlier, they have a long track record of being very reactive to change and I do not think they will suddenly become more open and democratic. I think it needs an event like this to scare them to realise they need to tune into the complaints and needs of their licence holders and the fans.

Maybe they need to do that.

But to be fair, the withdrawal of Chisora's license makes sense.
If the BBBofC were a transparent and democratic organisation they would still have withdrawn his license - because he's a ****ing nut who was involved in 3 seperate punishable offences in less than 48 hours at a world title challenge event.
That's why they took the license away, no other reason.

This would all still be happening even if the BBBofC was a much better and fairer organisation than it apparently is.

No. a proper sporting organisation cannot simply hand out undefined arbitrary bans, with a caveat to look at it in the future?

Ban him for life. ban him for 1 / 2 years, dont make something up because you cant come to a concrete conclusion

Why should they specify a time period ?

Maybe Chisora will prove himself a reformed and fit individual within 6 months, or maybe he will do something outrageous that confirms he shouldn't be licensed. It's not the board's problem.

They simply said, "we withdraw your licence. you are unfit at the moment" ... which seemed reasonable.

It's then up to Dereck Chisora to prove himself fit to box, and apply for his license back WHEN and IF he can present a case to SHOW that he is fit.

It's like being barred from a pub. You might be allowed back if you calm yourself down, but few landlords will say "that's a two month ban". They will say "get out of my pub" .... and maybe if you are polite and stay out of trouble you can come back in a few months as get the ban lifted. :D

    This is life.
Chisora's a grown man, acted like a ****ing ****. No one owes him anything, he did it to himself.

He's been 'banned' for 2 months or less and people are acting as if the BBBofC have kept him in untolerable limbo for a million years !
