I hope they do in this case, at least - I think most of you, especially the O'Connor haters - would find it surprising.

No, might be true for some posters but Ok, say someone like yourself, someone who watches allot of boxing. Say you score a fight without ESB. Im pretty certain your card would be NO DIFFERENT to what it would be if you were posting on here.

These guys are getting paid to score fights, they're not random guys watching the fight with a beer and on the laptop.

If he's not good at his job then he's not good, get someone else in who can score fights, no point in feeling sorry for him.

So why do a gang of blokes on the Internet generally get more consistent cards than 3 professional judges? Because we are better judges of boxing? I don't buy it....I'd bet my life we'd get wider cards if we scored the fight without seeing other peoples cards or reading their opinions of how the fight was going.

Im pretty sure i'd know the posters that would get it spot on near every time.
Obviously some will be swayed by the general consensus but not all.

It'd be interesting to do but the problem is we'd have to miss out on a RbR thread and there'd be no guarantee the fight would go to points or be particulary hard to score.

There was a wide card in the first Diaz-Malinaggi fight, 118-110 where the other cards were much closer but you'd could argue that at least that judge had been consistent, he preferred Diaz' aggression throughout whereas the closer cards were scoring some rounds for Paulies boxing and others for Diaz' pressure. Most people scored the fight to Paulie by a few rounds.

I wonder how easy it is to get caught up in seeing a fight in particular way when you are not hearing any other opinions?

I do understand the concept of favoring a certain type of work. It'd be good to get O'Conners card so we could scrutinize it and try figure out how bad it actually was.

I think the Fury McDermott fights still in my mind, maybe thats why i want him hung drawn and quartered

I really think it can be hard every time i have gone to a boxing match i have given up on scoring the fight from ringside or whatever vantage point i may have I actually find it nigh on impossible especially being amongst the crowd and with the speed of the action especially at these lighter weight I genuinely have problems knowing where to look. Anything that isnt a clear cut round falls into :huh territory for me.

The best i can do i usually have a general idea of how the fight went as a whole but obviously fights aren't scored like that.

I think sitting by the ring apron in amongst the crowd beneath the boxers looking up is possibly one of the worst places to view the boxing from if trying to impartially score fights.

It was a criminal card and Simpsons record has taken a big knock because of bad decisions.

Tbh, i think as is obvious.....a lot more of us are involved daily, be it only saying yay or nay.

I know it sounds a simple enough conclusion but do you reckon O' Connor logs on daily to a site (any site) involving his job ?

Most people like to leave there work at home....eg. why log on ?

I know of course fighters/trainers etc will be on........and looking and finding what they can......its a business....any sensible person in any trade would......to get ahead...........i dont reckon O'Connor does.........or needs to.

I think many that are void of favourites and money and are in that situation of judging.......will get it right (at least in there honest opinion)

Other peoples cards and the whole wank yank forum(s)..........regardless of subject, i think there cards would be wide, ok......matey.

Has anyone ventured the thought of foreign refs and judges ?

I know its costly......more so in boxing say compared to the English Premier for example though i still reckon that envelopes work..and always will......and when they dont...

O'Connor should never have had this fight given the Fury/McD fight.

I picked your post as it asked a good question/questions.

Well there are certain posters that will just score whatever Jim Watt says, or the commentators on Sky. There is no doubt they have a certain influence, and probably quite a few just copy what some posters on here say as well.

But not everyone. Thats no more true than saying all the judges are bent/incompetent. Some boxing fans are clearly better placed to be judging fights than some of the so called 'professional' judges which is worrying. Even in football despite the **** they get, I doubt any fan could do a better job than refs. Keeping up with play and making decisions under that pressure, in that type of arena, with the pace of the game, unbelievably tough job. Scoring a fight is very easy.

I think you're spot on Gaz.

When I'm scoring on here, I do it 3 rounds at a time so i don't really see what everybody else has put on a round by round basis.

O'Connor has been dodgy in the past, but i'm suprised that any action might be taken after the Simpson/Smith fight. Very close fight and hard to score, in my opinion. Lots of close rounds that could have gone either way.

Perhaps its something to do with all of us seeing the fight from one view (TV camera) whereas the judges are all stationed at different points. Reading ESB doesn't effect my scoring at all to be honest, I make my mind on the rounds before reading the RbR threads anyway.

TV commentators can definitely have an influence though IMO. Especially when its 4am and you've had one too many. I never trust my scorecards for the 4am fights.
