Retiring at #3 P4P (#4 if Floyd comes back), better than getting unceremoniously dropped to 46-1 by Chad Dawson.

    Good choice, good riddance. :good

I was looking forward to a Dawson fight but it's his choice to retire.

I think its a bait for Dawson ... if Dawson wants to get big payday he needs to get into the table fast.

If Dawson wants Calzaghe, it's Dawson and his management that needs to make the offer, not the other way round. Did Jones have to mkae an offer for Calzaghe all them years back? No, it was Calzaghe that had to come up with some way to get Jones, which he didn't. Now Calzaghe is on the other side of the fence and the ball is in Dawson's court to try and make something happen.

Good choice, he's made his money and not taken too much punishment. He could fight Dawson but even if he wins he might go into hibernation like Kessler or just turn out to be garbage like Lacy. Pavlik would have been another fight with interst, Hopkinss II, god no. No real attarctive options.

He ain't **** anyway. He's had only one good win (in nearly 3 years) since coming onto the scene with the Lacy fight.

He may think he don't need boxing but boxing don't need him either.

Dawson does not need Calzaghe really. Nor does Calzaghe need him, it would have been a decent way to round off JC's career, take on another up and comer after the Hopkins/Jones fights, prove that he is a fully fledged LHW against a young hungry fighter with hopefully his best days before him. However since Kessler Calzaghe has been looking towards retirement, his next 2 fights were money rather than legacy despite the fact that Hopkins has turned out to be a very good win.

The Division needs an infusion of new blood, been dominated by old timers in recent years, Calzaghe beating Dawson( still quite likely IMO) would be damaging for the short term future of the division, in much the same way that Pavlik losing to Hopkins has taken some of the lustre from the MW.

US boxing especially needs the new generation to come through, push Tarver/Wright/Hopkins/Jones out of the limelight.

I agree totally - time for the new generation (especially if you're not gonna fight the new generation but fight shot former champions and pass them off as competitive fights).
