er i think you will find a comparison. where do you want me to start? er, richard frazier, er david telesco, um derrick harmon, er, tony thornton (a postman) is that enough names for you? or do you want me to include lou del valle, antoine byrd, and bryant brannon? what are you on about exactly? Remember, there were better fighters around for jones to fight then, thats why he fought hopkins, toney, and Mccallum. For years, calzaghe has been fighting in a division reduntant of real talent and challenges.
Harmon - 20-1-0 Telesco - 23-2-0 Del Valle - 27-1-0 Brannon - 16-0-0 Byrd - 26-4-1 Frazier - 18-3-1 Tony Thornton is an interesting one, he was 37-6-1 when he fought Jones but was better than given credit for. Went the distance with Toney and also Eubank - who only just shaded the decision from what I remember, whereas Jones clowned him and stopped him in 3 rounds. So that's Jones's weakest comp dealt with, as named by yourself. Want me to name a few of Calslappys shameful defences?
The hate in this thread is laughable. Some people should really assess their claims of being boxing fans. Good luck to Joe Calzaghe and thanks for the memories if he does retire.
Who cares the Calzaghe has contributed absolutely nothing to boxing. He is a hype job who biggest wins are against other hype jobs, shot fighters or past-it fighters. He should be totally ignored for the HOF, and by boxing history in general.
In a few years, if he's really done and unbeaten, when his opponents talk about what it was like to fight Calzaghe, his legend will grow. Hell, even before the Calz. vs. Jones fight, Hopkins said something like, "Noone can keep up with him." Just wait till more and more of those comments come out from the Hopkins', Lacy's, Kessler's, and Jones' of the world. Calz. was/is a damn good fighter and his resume is decent.
Calzaghe has contributed a lot. I think he is a great champion. Just because we in the United States did not see him fight, does not mean he is no good. I always thought Eubanks could have been a legend here in the US had guys fought him. Nigel Benn was great also. Just because people are not American fighters does not mean they are not good. My favorite fighter is Thomas Hearns, and American. But what I like about him is he fought them all.. But it does not have to do with English or American. If a guy is a good fighter give him credit.
Ridiculous argument, comparing the records of their worst opponents. However, at the time of their fight Evans Ashira 24-1 Kabary Salem 23-3 Mger Mrkrtchian 18-1 Tocker Pudwell 39-4 Will McIntyre 29-2 Miguel Angel Jiminez 21-1 Rich Thornberry 23-2 Branko Sobot 14-1 Very similar numbers, only thing you can say for certain is that they both fought too many guys not reallly deserving of a title shot, and that a record can be decieving
Incredible isn't it??? We got a new forum but the same ****ing idiots (and a few new ones) drag it into the gutter. Why do I bother?? Anyone got any recommendations for a decent, non-hate boxing forum with fans who appreciate the sport and those who are involved?? P.S. Apologies to the many decent fans we do have here.
What does that say about Calzaghe?... Every fighter has critics and haters...but FEW have a TRUE haterbase I think the fighter's that have this are Calzaghe Floyd Mayweather Oscar De La Hoya All are hated for common reasons...Money fighters, Great talent and no match-ups to warrant it, and all too cautious (DeLaHoya is hated for a slew of other outside scandals...fishnets, releasing an album, seemingly fake on camera) There are plenty of other fighters who are digging themselves a true hater fanbase but it cant compare to these...
Go away you stupid newbie. I dont know why you joyboys always pop up after a big fight. Anyone who can say an ATG like Sugar Shane is a disgrace simply knows nothing about boxing. So no the only sad fool here is you with your garbage post.
Learn how to spell you clown and turn your caps lock off it doesnt give your useless point anymore clout. Its pretty clear your memory isnt capable of stretching back further than yesterday. So why dont YOU tell me "how" and most of all "why" history will favour Joes career ledger. I eagerly await your response.
I'm far from a JC fan but he is a very good fighter. But if he thinks he's going down as one of the greatest, he's mistaken. The greatest fought wars and not hand picked over the hill fighters and fraud prize fighters. Floyd is seriously considering fighting Pacman. Some have doubts if Floyd is one of the best to ever do it but if he defeats Pacman, it'll be no doubt about his legacy. Fighting a "pound for pound" boxer in his prime will get you that respect.
