Iplayer link lads...http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01cmskg/5_live_Sport_The_Future_of_Boxing/ :good
really enjoying this. only listened to first half hour so far. good informed debate. not sure why they went to kevin mitchell though. not the most "eloquent" is he?
Interesting summary by Ben Dirs on the debate: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bendirs/2012/03/boxing_fights_on_regardless.html
Ben Dirs used to get a bit of stick on places like here and 606 but he seems to have grown into a decent journalist. I know boxing isn't his only trade (doesn't he do live cricket test as well) but he seems to know his stuff - at least when it comes to the major issues.
Has anybody done a translation of what Enzo Calzaghe said yet? He might have hit the nail on the head when he said "hfudhdygcgfujm huhdnchduhtgygs jushdyhbghcu" Either that, or he was trying to pronounce the name of Nathan Cleverly next opponent?
and the winner of the 2012 ''do as i say, not as i do'' gold award goes to ............... KEVIN MITCHELL!!! Loved the earnestness of his comments on kids drinking, being involved in drugs, and carrying knives. thankg god he was never involved in anything like that:happy:happy thought the MPs came out of it really well - sounded like they really do care about the sport. the other encouraging aspect was the boom in amateur boxing - am sure this will result in an even better class of pros in the next few years
The GB (and Irish) amateur set ups are really thriving atm and as long as out lads keep doing well at the Olympics I think it'll be harder and harder for terrestrial channels to ignore boxing. Look at the all the attention cycling got after the GB dominated last time.
