Wallet, can you ask Buncey to ask Lee Purdy if he is going to give Craig Watson an immediate rematch

That's actually been something I've been wondering myself. :-( Gutted for the lad.

Fighters that went on too long.....

Meldrick Taylor - shouldn't have been allowed in a boxing gym after the Chavez rematch. Poor lad already had iffy speech before the first fight.

Wilfred Benitez - not sure when he should have packed in, after Hearns maybe?

Tommy Hearns - though he wasn't fighting anyone dangerous after the 2nd loss to Barkley :-( the game was up.

Roy Jones - after the first Tarver fight he was cooked. KO losses to Tarver and Johnson only served to emphasise that. Yet he still goes on......

Enzo Maccarinelli - he looked shot against Lebedev, then alright against Frenkel before getting nailed. Surprised he's going on.....

Evander Holyfield - being shut out by Larry Donald was embarrassing and sad.

    Hector Camacho
    Muhammad Ali
    Mike Tyson
    Ian Napa
    Audley Harrison
    Ken Buchanan
    Marco Antonio Barrera
    Erik Morales

To be honest there aren't many that actually gave it away at the right time.... thinking of examples....

    Lennox Lewis
    Marvin Hagler
    Riddick Bowe (before the comebacks)
Pernell Whitaker (not really counting his last fight)
    Kostya Tszyu
Ricky Hatton (assuming he doesn't come back)

Calzaghe is one that gave it up to soon.

Wasn't Calzaghe's US contract with Showtime? If it was he certainly gave up way too soon...

    No he was with HBO.

He couldn't have done the Super 6 anyway.

He should have done Pavlik before Hopkins and get the credit.

Fighters who gave it up at the right time would be a better question.

I think Calzaghe timed his departure about right.

The Hopkins fight took a lot out of him mentally IMO and made him question himself..... hence why he took the cash out option of Jones (even though he gave him 50-50 :yikes) rather than a rematch or a Pavlik/Dawson fight.... or even a rematch with Kessler at 175.

To say Roberto Duran went on too long is an understatement, he was fighting into his fifties and had it not been for an accident he would probably still be trying to get fights made!

Totally agree. There were always signs that Pavlik wasn't the monster some proclaimed and rumours of his personal problems were rife. Calzaghe would have schooled him in the same manner that Hopkins did imho.
