:deal Buncey, you really need to raise the issue of officiating in this country. It's getting terrible, the Maxwell/Doran stoppage was atrocious and cost Maxwell a British title fight.
I would just be happy with some clarification of the application of the standing 8 rule, particularly in the context of Doran-Maxwell fight. Maxwell rocked Doran inside the first minute and he was denied the chance to finish him off because the ref gave Doran a standing 8. Then later on in the same round, Doran caught Maxwell with a good shot and flurried (Maxwell was covering up), but the ref just stopped the fight. Very premature, and if the ref deemed it necessary to give Doran (the home fighter) a standing 8 then why not afford the same to Maxwell a minute later in the same round. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I can only imagine how Maxwell felt. It just damages the credibility of boxing.
It's just happening too often, both with scoring and refereeing - needs to be sorted. There was a thread on Boxrec criticising the decision, it's up to about 80 pages and there's a few saying what we are all saying, the rest are all ''how dare you question Howard Foster'' or ''Howard is world class'', without actually debating the matter at hand. Our officials are just ****, now and again we see a perfectly timed stoppage or some clarity on the cards after a close fight.... but all too often it's the officiating that is the topic of discussion rather than the fighters. McDermott vs Fury I Simpson vs Smith II Maxwell vs Doran Bellew vs McKenzie and so on.
Yeah, I agree. Half the time it is the home fighter that gets a decision. Why does the ref/judges not be more consistent with their scoring/stoppages etc, too much goes the way of the home fighter without clear reasoning behind it. I also thought Robinson beat Sexton and Page beat Dallas, but I was nearly certain who would get the decision before it was confirmed.
