1. Floyd Mayweather 2. Manny Pacquiao 3. Joe Calzaghe 4. Miguel Cotto 5. Juan Manuel Marquez 6. Israel Vasquez 7. Winky Wright 8. Kelly Pavlik 9. Antonio Margarito 10. Ricky Hatton Now - this list isn't all that bad, but one thing that really struck me is that Winky Wright has been moved from 9 in the last ratings, to 7. Given that he hasn't fought for 10 months, and doesn't even have an opponent - this totally beggars belief! What about Rafael Marquez, Ivan Calderon, Bernard Hopkins (who beat Wright!) or others - David Haye or Wlad Klitscko even! The people who collate this should be fired.
Yeah I can't see why the win over Cintron gets him in. A good result, but Cintron was nowhere near a top 10 P4P candidate. Calderon should be in the mix somewhere. Winky....I don't understand that at all.:huh
Here's mine, dont think top 3 need to be explained but the rest might... 1] Floyd Mayweather 2] Manny Pacquiao 3] Joe Calzaghe 4] Israel Vazquez I had Raf Marquez as my number 5 behind Juan Manuel Marquez who was number 4 before Vazquez beat Raf. As a result Vazquez jumps to number 4 as linear super bantam champ. 5] Miguel Cotto Still undefeated and wins over Mosley, Judah, Urkal and Quintana at welter. Two weight world champ but it’s the '0' on the record and his CV which puts him this high up. 6] Juan Manuel Marquez Slim loss to Pacquiao drops him to six. Coming towards end of career though so only really likely to fall down my list from now on. 7] Kelly Pavlik Linear middleweight champion, two impressive performances over Jermaine Taylor (previous linear champ) as well as a good win over Miranda. Best of a mediocre middleweight division but undefeated linear champion so deserves to be in top ten. 8] Rafael Marquez Two defeates to Israel Vazquez on the bounce drops him to 8 9] Ricky Hatton I had Ricky at number 6 before defeat to Mayweather. Manner of loss and performance of others have made him drop 3 places. A win over any decent light-welter would be enough for him to leap frog both Marquezs and Pavlik. Still Linear champ at lightwelter and also a former two weight world champ 10] Ivan Calderon Second defence of his light-flyweight title ending in a wide points decision is enough to sneak him into top ten at expense of B-Hop. Honourable mentions for Hopkins who just dropped out, Winky Wright who is no longer in through inactivity (having not fought since July 2007 and there appearing to be no sign of him fighting again soon - wtf are the BBC playing at there!!?), Shane Mosley after defeat to Cotto, Roy Jones Junior who is climbing up again slowly having dropped off my list after his second loss to Tarver and Wladimir Klitschko (but the fact he has been beaten 3 times in a bad heavyweight division means he doesn’t make my list - it would be a struggle for him to get on the list with the wealth of talent in other divisions in my humble opinion).
Winky was the #2 before he lost to Hopkins....... So he loses a close UD and he's off the list??atsch
Winky wasn't No. 2 on the BBC list - he was about 6! He was dropped to 9 following the loss to Hopkins (116-112 IMO) which was fair enough, but bearing in mind he hasn't even looked like getting an opponent means he should be cast aside until such time as he fights.
I have me: 1. - 2. Cotto 3,4,5. Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao, JM Marquez 6. Vazquez 7. R Marquez 8. Calzaghe 9. winner of Munoz v. Mijares 10. Haye
its just one reporter sitting at a desk who made this up, who most probably is a football or cricket reporter and was asked to do this on the back of a *** packet.
Your right I suppose, but surely the BBC has at least one reporter who knows his boxing. Its a massive shame that they cant sort it out given that in general they offer the best sporting coverage available
bbc used to be the place for boxing. i grew up watching grandastand and sportsnight with harry carpenter the bbc boxing man. since those days the bbc has had no real boxing identity. i read the reports of ceefax about boxing and they are just copied and pasted reuters reports mistakes and all. the ammounts of times i read ceefax pages when they even get the weightclasses of the fighters wrong shows it is done by the bbc teaboys.
I've never really managed to see much boxing on BBC, other than the odd fights (Haye v Thompson springs to mind) but ITV Fight Night used to be good! Best theme music ever too! BBC needs to sort it out, if Setanta can do then surely BBC can too!
