Thats how Pavlik got into the P4p TOP 10. He beat the man he beat Hopkins.

The problem is, that is the only way to judge boxers, but the opponents that they face on a head to head basis.

It doesn't make sense to say 'that's head to head, it doesn't work in reality'. How on earth else do you rate a boxer other than by who he's beaten (and then you judge the level of competition bu who the people he's beaten have beaten, etc)?

What you are in fact illustrating is what I brought up earlier - the risk of putting someone in a P4P top ten list on the basis of just one performance. Kelly Pavlik was number six iirc in The Ring list when he thought Hopkins, solely because he beat Taylor. And Taylor had been elevated into the top ten solely through beating Hopkins. Also in recent years, we have seen the laughable example of a majority of people including Antonio Margarito in top ten lists just on the basis of a win against Cotto. When you judge just on the basis of one good win, rather than a body of work, the risk you run is that it was more of a stylistic win than evidence of a consistent level of excellence.

That's why Donnaire, Ward and possibly Martinez (though GazOC has put up good arguments for his inclusion in this thread) should not be considered imo.
