Last updated June 19: POUND-FOR-POUND TOP 10 This content is protected 1. David Haye - Heavyweight London (22-1, 21KOs) Haye may now fight Vitali Klitschko in September, and he will have his work cut out against the giant Ukrainian, the WBC title-holder. This content is protected 2. Carl Froch - Super-middleweight Nottingham (25-0, 20KOs) Froch produced one of the great comebacks to beat Jermain Taylor and is surely careering towards a unification with Denmark's Mikkel Kessler. This content is protected 3. Ricky Hatton - Light-welterweight Manchester (45-2, 32KOs) Hatton was knocked out in two rounds by pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas and his extraordinary career may now be over. This content is protected 4. Amir Khan - Lightweight Bolton (21-1, 15KOs) Khan claimed the WBA light-welterweight title with a classy victory over Andreas Kotelnik to silence the doubters. Could a fight against Ricky Hatton be the next step? This content is protected 5. Junior Witter - Light-welterweight Bradford (37-3-2, 22KOs) Witter's hopes of fighting Amir Khan went up in smoke when he lost to Devon Alexander in trying to reclaim the WBC light-welterweight belt. Difficult to see what options he has left. This content is protected 6. Kevin Mitchell - Super-featherweight Dagenham (28-0, 21KOs) The British champion's world title hopes have been frustrated by injuries, to both himself and potential opponents, but recorded a stoppage win on the Khan-Kotelnik undercard. This content is protected 7. Kell Brook - Welterweight Sheffield (20-0, 13KOs) Originally a product of the same Sheffield gym as Naseem Hamed, Brook has been tipped for world honours and defended his British title with ease against Michael Lomax in July. This content is protected 8. John Murray - Lightweight Manchester (25-0, 13KOs) Could the British champion, and not the much-hyped Amir Khan, be the man to make a splash on the world stage? Battled to victory over Lee McAllister in January. This content is protected 9. Jamie Moore - Light-middleweight Salford (32-3, 23KOs) Moore gave an impressive display in stopping Ukrainian Roman Dzuman in two rounds in Sunderland to defend his European title. Moore is now targeting a world title fight. This content is protected 10. Clinton Woods - Light-heavyweight Sheffield (42-4-1, 24KOs) Woods looked a spent force in losing to Antonio Tarver, but has landed another crack at his old IBF light-welterweight belt against Travis Cloud on 28 August. Thoughts? Got your own list?
The lower half is poor. Clinton Woods should be in 6th on that list, closely followed by Jamie Moore. Kevin Mitchell hasn't done enough, neither have John Murray or Kell Brook.
Froch should have above Haye for starters...... Moore should be much higher..... Brook hasn't beaten a fighter that can both give and take a punch..... Murray has beaten who, exactly - that hasn't been beaten by Khan or Thaxton?
I havn't got a problem with Murray, Brook and Mitchell on the list but they should be the bottom three. They are probably the most 'proven' of the fighters we have that are on the fringes of world class.
1. David Haye (22-1) 2. Carl Froch (25-0) 3. Ricky Hatton (45-2) 4. Amir Khan (21-1) 5. Junior Witter (37-2-2) 6. Clinton Woods (42-4-1) 7. Jamie Moore (32-3) 8. Kell Brook (20-0) 9. Kevin Mitchell (29-0) 10. Nathan Cleverly (17-0) Here is the Brit forums top 10.
That's much more realistic. So its got Cleverly instead of Murray, but apart from that its exactly as I said with the 'potential' world challengers behind the actual proven top fighters. And Moore inbetween, because he's a European champ and has beaten the best domestic fighters.
