    Harrison’s purse in jeopardy?

The British Board of Boxing of Control may withhold some or all of the estimated £1 million purse due heavyweight Audley Harrison, who disappointed 22,000 in attendance and the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester and millions watching on worldwide TV by hardly throwing a punch against WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye before being kayoed in round three. “Rescinding some of Audley Harrison’s purse is something which we will have to consider,” said BBBC secretary Robert Smith. “The board have rescinded purses when we feel a fighter has not tried. Myself and the BBBC chairman Charles Giles will watch the fight again then make a decision, but we have the authority to rescind purses and we would not be afraid to use that. Audley Harrison has not been paid yet, so it is something we can do.”

Lets see if they can get this to stand legally. Excellent news and poetic justice if the board can stick to their word.

I was going to say Scurla I wonder what the legal angle it to this? For years the BBBofC had powers they used to enforce until somebody threatened them with court and the the rules turned out to be unenforcable.

Exactly. If everything was right with the world there would be a clause within the contract that Harrison would have had to have signed and agreed to. Id like to think that it would stand up in court but personally i dont see it. For Harrison to walk away with £1m after a showing like that is utterly disgusting. I hope he stays in California and never returns. At least there he doesnt have to worry about anyone knowing who he is.

It's not like he just sat in the middle of the ring and refused to move. He was still abysmal. Maybe the best punishment would be to not let him fight again.

That wont happen. As long as Harrison is medically fit he's license wont be revoked. The best way to hurt him is in his pocket. Boxing should be like the old days. If a fighter stinks the place out he gets his purse docked or withdrawn completely. They still do that in Japanese Mixed Martial Arts.

It is worth the million quid to ensure he never fights again.

Plus I doubt it would stand up in court and I doubt the BBBofC have the cash to fight a courtcase

I don't see it either Scurla. I think as soon someone challenges it, that power will turn out to be unenforcable by law.

Probably won't even make it to court, like the Warren ones didn't.

If Warren was involved in that promotion that article wouldn't have even made fightnews. Warren used to be a solicitor. He knows the law VERY well. Im pretty sure Harrisons legal representatives do to.

I'd be very surprised if the Hearns allowed a contract that wasn't watertight to be signed.

    why take it?

oh come on. what did people expect from ****ing audley. people who havent seen his fights before are the ones hating on him. hes always like this.

and to take his purse? he's only got a reason to stay in the game if they take it then.
