Be honest, after the first round, did you think Tyson was gonna beat Lewis?

he had a goos first rd. came out jabbing, backed up lewis but tyson was always a good starter. after that, it was clear, he was finished. tyson was too old to get the job done. if anyone thinks that fight was an indication of what would have happened if they fought in their primes, then you dont know boxing.

I think most just like to hate, people are quick to point out that Spinks was a LHW, and Holmes was past it, yet they act like Tyson was near peak when he and Lewis fought.

So how was it that Tyson was too old and not Lewis? You do know that Lewis is older than Tyson don't you? And actually I do think it's an indication that something similar could happen in their primes and I've probably been following boxing longer than you've been on this earth :yep

As for Tyson having a good first round, he was rocked a couple of times with uppercuts and indicated while in the corner that he was hurt, which isn't my defination of "having a good round"

All that said, Tyson was clearly a shadow of his former self. I still recall the bars filling up and pretty much everything stopping so people could watch one if his fights. He was truly electrifying at his peak. Unfortunately that was a lot shorter than virtually any of us expected it to be.

Yeah, it was clear that Tyson was just a ringmaster then...only people who were stupid, blinded by love, and hope...like me. Really thought Tyson still was the same beast who winked before he shot the upper cuts at lil mac...****, I love hard.:-(

YOU GOT A DEAD MAN IN FRONT OF YOU READY TO BE TAKEN OUT AND YOU STANDIN THERE DOIN THIS?!!?

The look on Tyson's face at the end of the 1st round weirded me out. It looked like he lost all confidence then and there.

Tyson & Lewis have 2 different styles, Tyson's style is built for the young, just look at Frazier, Rocky & Dempsey, they all humg it up in thier early 30s, another thing to remember is Tyson's prime was in the mid 80s, by the time he fought Lewis he had been in boxing for over 17 yrs, even before he fought Lewis he looked like crap against Nielson.

Excellent reply, but I learned a long time ago you can not reason with Tyson lovers. The MT huggers act like LL was some kind of peaking youngster when they met. It's one excuse after another... and that oh so short prime.

It's very simple to analyze MT. When he was young and fast he could get inside the longer reach of bigger HWs and rip hard hooks & uppercuts. And by fast I mean everything - hands, feet, upper body. Inside, his short reach was more of an advantage than a disadvantage. When MT started to slow down, he could be taken by a quality big or determined HW. Douglas showed the way when MT was just

MT had many good wins vs bigger guys after his loss to Buster, but MT fanatics focus so much on his mid to late 80s fights. Holly wasn't even a big HW, but he was a more determined fighter... oops doesn't count, Mike wasn't in his prime

Interesting. Did not know about it.

I hate watching that fight though. Hate seeing Tyson being clobbered and abused and being mightily helpless about it.

He should have fought Lewis during his prime, so it would have been a good fight.

I don't think Tyson had a chance to begin with, that being said he did look decent in the first round and it did give me a glimmer of hope-but after the 3rd round I knew it was only a matter time.
