I mean alot of things.. He did not crumble after taking shot from somewhat proven fighter or he could fight disciplined fight as using his strenghts and boxing wisely. Sure the fight didnt give us the great ko we all expected but this happens alot of time when we least expected.

I voted for Wilder. I thought he'd pull off the upset. Whenever I hear this non-sense "He just has to take one punch then he will go KO" its usually dead wrong.

That was because he was easily outboxed by Wilder. Wilder *MADE* him look sick, that's all.

I was wrong, I thought Stiverne would detonate his brain. The **** with Stiverne being sick has to be taken with a grain of salt. I've seen Stiverne fight many times and his gameplan wasn't much different from any other fight. I don't know that Wilder has a great chin, but his height and Stiverne having to punch up and reach that chin allowed Wilder to ride a lot of those shots.

Gramsey or could it just be Wilder was much better than we all(includingStiverne) expected.;) Maybe Stiverne wasnt ready or didnt ever know how to fight against guy who fought well fighting behind jab(like Austin fight showed us).

Rewatch the fights vs. Arreola. Stiverne looked like **** until he found his big counter punch. Just against Wilder he never found it.

    Most of us were.

I know the fight proved 2 things comprehensively.

    1. Stiverne had absolutely no gameplan for Wilder fighting off the back-foot.
    2. Wilder proved he can fight very smartly, off the back-foot, imposing his size and fighting behind the jab.

That said......you make a great point in terms of Wilder's punch resistance. You use the words "ride a lot" irt Wilder taking Stivernes punches.

Indeed Stiverne landed no more than 5 clean shots over the course of 12 rds, and I can't remember a single clean punch landed by Bermane inside the first 3 rds, by which point he'd been hurt badly, and started losing steam.

I know for a FACT that Stiverne was throwing down with Adonis Stevenson prior to his training camp, and that he ballooned up over 270lbs.

Now, trying to get back down into the 240 range for his first an ONLY title defense, EVER(he'll never win any version of a HW title again), may have possibly made him sickly for the fight.

It certainly didn't help his chances.

MOF......just befriending Adonis Stevenson hurt his chances in that fight. :huh

And never was going to b/c Deontay fought almost the entire fight off the backfoot when he wasn't drilling Stiverne with monster R hands thru the guard.:lol::lol:

Wilder did good in that fight but the jurys still out give him a few more fights and see how he goes...that's if he stops cherry picking people like Molina.

No, because Stiverne was the definition of a paper champ.
