Yes, John Roxborough took advantage of him probably because Louis was black.

Playing the victim card is a sure way to end up being the victim

If you end up penniless its due to poor business discisions. Some people like Tyson for example were thrown into the deep end without arm bands. The sharks will swarm where there's money to be made/exploited

If black Americans are the victims how come two of the most richest and successful American athletes (Jordan and FMJ) are both black?

Reason is they didn't play the victim they went out and made money and made more. Opportunities are there for those that rise above stereotypes

I'm from Wales and we have a long history of old tyme boxers. Read there back stories virtually all of them died penniless. Most of them squandered there money and made poor business choices.

Yeah, that is a balanced analogy. LOL!

    Villain
Think of the word villain and you may imagine criminals, pickpockets or fraudsters. But the association of the word with crime is relatively new. In fact the word originally referred to a particular class of people on the lower levels of British feudal society.

The word derives from the Latin villanus, meaning ‘one attached to a villa or farmhouse’. Villanus moved into the English language in two forms: villain defined by the OED as ‘a low-born, base-minded rustic’ (from c.1303), and villein ‘one of the class of serfs in the feudal system’. Over a few hundred years the word comes to signify illegal activities. This is a classic case of social and political forces shifting the meaning of a word. It is very common indeed for the rich and powerful to influence the language in this way, although it must not be forgotten that subcultures and subversives throughout history have also played an essential part in influencing language change, as any dictionary of slang will reveal.

I personally feel Floyd was tired of being too nice to the folks at HBO. Larry always talked trash to Floyd and he would take it because he did not want to be perceived as the "angry black man" however you can only take soooo much garbage before you strike back and that's what Floyd did in the later years.
Good for Floyd and his bank account IMO

What's funny is that Louis really wasn't such a nice guy. One of my friends' father was a big-time numbers man in Detroit back in the day and was friends with Louis and Robinson. He said Louis was mean as hell and you had to watch yourself around him. The "nice guy" Louis was just an act.

Shame Mayweather had to cheat to obtain success wasn't it? He had the God Given talents to do it legally but lacked the cojones. Biggest fraud EVER in boxing

For Ali it paid handsomely to play the villain.

It has worked for a lot of boxers.
