Great fight and all , but what a monumental choke job...Maybe the biggest choke job in the sport's history....The guy dominates Anderson like it's nothing and ****s it all up in the 5th with only 1 minute and 50 seconds left ? atsch Not to mention he even was taking roids at the time (if i'm not mistaking)... He could've waited , play it safe....lose time and win by UD but noooo......He'd make Lebron proud. Good fight though....really good.
I always thought that was Anderson Silva's MMA version of Ali's rope-a-dope. In hindsight, it looked like Silva was willing to sit back while looking for the best time to pull a submission attempt.
I disagree about "dominating him like it was nothing" Silva had the energy to pull a sub out because Sonnen did minimal damage on the ground. The fight should have been stood up in pretty every round. A Sonnen win would be the greater travesty in my opinion. Of course the way he was able to take Silva down was very impressive considering the success of Silva's other opposition.
It's still one hell of a ****ing choke job though... He had this fight. I mean even the 2002 fight between Nogueira vs Crocop can't compete with this. (but crocop wasn't very good at defending subs at the time of the fight , he was still transitioning from K1 to mma)... But in Sonnen's case ? No excuses... Biggest choke in the sport's history...it's gotta be. Can you guys think of a choke job as big as this one ? In the 5th with about a minutes and half left to go ?
Sonnen took it to the ground quickly, his aggressive wrestling and striking was dominant but Silvas sub was no trick and he didn't wait for 5 rounds. He was looking for a sub and you can see clear attempts. I might rewatch it and count Silvas sub attempts.
Sonnen's career is literally filled with examples of him choking, both lierally and metaphorically. But having said that I did think he had this one in the bag. Reminded me of the 'good ole days' of Royce v Kimo & Severn
silva had a broken rib. I'd love to see a rematch with an uninjured silva to see if sonnen could still take him down like that.
What? That's the reason Sonnen came out looking great, he did back up his talk, he just got caught. He said it wasn't going to be a war it was going to be 5 rounds of him swinging the hammer and he was right, give him credit for that. And yes, obviously Anderson was injured. Anyone who's saying "DUR HE WAS ON THE PEDS THATS THE REASON HE WON" is a smallminded fool. Anderson was injured, and you're discrediting Sonnen's wrestling ability anyhow. I think Sonnen would be able to take Anderson down but would he be able to keep him there fully fit? I don't think so.
I have been an avid fan of Julio Cesar Chavez for a long time, and I can honestly say I've never seen him lie on top of someone, produce some of the lamest ground n pound in history, get choked out, then pretend he didn't tap. Nor have I saw Chavez juice up to the max, and still get beat by a guy with an injured rib. Don't see the similarity at all here.
eh i said silva not sonnen try read proper next time although had i said sonnen that woulda been funny same to you
