    The way his guard is dropped, bent over with his chin out is inheritantly flawed and leaves him very open to uppercuts and short hooks. Armstrongs head movement is reliant on pepetual motion and rythm rather than reacting to his opponent, which means when he tired he could be timed once an opponent figures out his rythm. You can see Ambers took advantage of this. He was also somewhat happy to eat a punch to land his own. I'm sure Robinson had a pretty easy time with him because of these traits

    PP,Yes Ray Robinson had an easy time against the fading Henry Armstrong
    Aug.27,1943 2 MSG. I saw that bout ringside,and young Robinson took it
    "easy' on his older idol. We in the crowd knew it. Robbie,at almost 6"ft,
    virtually played with Henry, and NEVER opened up...Remember that night well, lo these many years...

    He was tough but had not much defence, I think he would have had problems with fast hitter.
