I think Kessler is a good fighter but he level of comp is low. Whats the deal with him beating Mundine and Mundine still being considered the 168 "regular" champ by the WBA?

Kessler could redeem himself by coming to the states to fight Allan Green, Bika, Miranda, or Lacy or any well known (by US fans) 168 pounder.

He does have speed, a good jab, and a good chin ... He also has deceptive power.

you're actualy reflecting WHY calzaghe still has so many question marks over him (and probably always will have) rather than bolstering any argument in his defence.

personally, i don't doubt what joe COULD have done if he decided to invade america and become a legitimate candidate to fight roy jones or bernard hopkins in their prime - well hopkins at least could have been very interesting.

BUT - frank warren is 'numbers player'. he likes to milk his fighters - that's it.
joe bought into that in exactly the same way hatton did not, and that is why we have this debate now.

do not defend calzaghe because you can quote 'great champions' as if it lends weight to his name. joe is a supreme boxer who chose not to risk his unbeaten record on the world stage against P4P fighters in their prime. and that is how he will be remembered universally - which is a real shame.

  6. Yes, Joe DID beat Byrd as an amatuer, in Italy I believe it was.

considering joe's talent it's a real shame he never sought to ecplise this win considering his choice of opponent since then.

if roy wasn't a pure bread..sory, bred...southern negro like yourself - and if floyd wasn't affiliated with you in the way you are clearly implying - would you have posted this at all?

    no, of course you wouldn't.

thats how i feel. i think joe will remain a potentially great fighter but just hasnt fought the opposition to prove it.
sugar rays comment is the only one i lend some weight to since roy jones wants to fight him so he is not going to say "you suck, now lets fight", lennox is a countryman in a sea of foreigners and emmanuel steward is ... well, emmanuel steward.
